Egg Peritonitis Help

Whenever I have gotten to a few days of a bird not responding to hospital care I take it to the vet and try to get them cultured or at least seen by an expert. I have found you spend actually less $$ knowing what you're dealing with and treating for that specific thing than throwing different things and hoping something works.

I feel the same about my Brahma. She's an armful. Probably weighs twelve pounds. You do know that Brahmas aren't full grown until around two, and they keep filling out some more after that. They are very regal.

Snowy and cold here but my Margaret is hanging in there! Out with the flock doing a bit of free ranging! yes, I shoveled them a path! Hahaha

So today I feel like Margaret was more active. Everytime I went into yard she was free ranging. Ate some worms today too and I caught her drinking water. Later in the day she was in the nesting box... I haven’t seen her in this box for 2 weeks. She didn’t lay an egg but she sure wanted to be in there. She went to it twice today. I hope that’s a good sign. The act of getting into that box isn’t easy so she has to have more energy. She has to jump pretty high and climb some roosts to get in! I love this girl and hope she keeps pushing through!

Nice to see Margaret is able to be out and has some energy. It's such a rollercoaster with them. Yesterday Pearl drank a lot of honey water and her color looked good. She sat down to sleep. This morning she seemed worse and weaker. Then I came home from work and she ate all of the latest thing I offered. And I gave her more and she seems to be ready to eat now so I hope she keeps improving. But I've had them fool me before.

Awww I hope she gets better! They really do go back and forth and while I’m feeling hopeful about Margaret I know that can change so quickly! Just love them as much as we can when they are with us

Hi there! Needed a little of your amazing advice My Corid finally came in today! Took forever! Margaret is basically the same...maybe ever so slightly better but basically the same. No one else is showing any symptoms of anything and her poo does not look coccidia (ish)... do you recommend I treat them all anyway or not so much? Thank you again for your help!

Yes, go ahead and treat them all with the Corid. They could be harboring a light load of coccidia, and if so, it would be good to get rid of them before they decide to commit mischief. The Corid treatment is so simple and non-invasive, it's often done as a matter of course every so often as a preventative. Just mix two teaspoons of liquid Corid in one gallon of water or make half that amount if you wish for just the four chickens. Do it for five days. Wait a week and do one more round. Be sure to withhold vitamins during treatment.

Half that amount, meaning 1 teaspoon per gallon? Just to be clear.. going to start today when my water thaws!! Also, why no vitamins.. just curious?

@Karen1277 , I have to tell you that my EE hen is going through the exact same symptoms you have and are still going through. She started acting really ill about 3 days ago. I have found your thread invaluable and reassuring, along with the help from @azygous . I hope your dear Margaret heals. . And I hope the same for @azygous flock. Awww thank you! I love that we can all support one another when our hens aren’t feeling well! I can’t think the folks here enough for help! I don’t think girl would be here right now if it weren’t for @azygous and others! Much love to you and your girl too!
