Egg Song! Glorious Egg Song!

Beautiful first egg! My 4 girls were carrying on something awful this morning, so much so that I went out there thinking maybe a predator might be about. Nope, they were just doing their 'thing' I supposed. I have 4 girls and 2 have begun laying recently. I went out to the coop around 11:00 and there were two eggs in there...woot! Then around 12:30 I heard one singing the egg song and I went back out and there was a third egg...YAY! Just have one more girl to get herself in gear now!

I think rooster because I can see what looks like pointy saddle feathers and because of his coloring. EE's can generally be sexed by color. Females have regular patterning and even coloring. Males have splotchy and irregular coloring and patterns. Yes, I would expect it to be crowing by that age, but maybe he's a late bloomer. Or maybe I'm wrong, and its a she. ;)

you know, I'd thought that about my Daisy too since I'd heard that black and white in an EE meant roo but that copper or red in the feathers was a dead giveaway. Also, Daisy's feathers were always different too. She lays a pretty blue egg every day. I'll upload her picture tomorrow when I have a signal lol

I have had chickens for a year. They have been laying since February. I still smile every time I hear the egg song! Some mornings I will open a window while making breakfast or sit on the patio with my coffee just so I can hear them better.

I love how they occasionally get what seems like the whole flock all worked up. Some times it reaches a fever pitch. Like IWIW said, I have to go and check on them. Then I get "the look" like "dude you are messing with our groove out here, go back in the house!"

Oh, yes they do!
I have one rooster who stays in the coop and he starts as soon as a hen starts her song. Then the other hens and the alpha rooster in the run all join in. That's 18 making noise at the same time.

I really hope it's a hen. :fl I can't have roosters here & I've already had to give up my favorite chicken - my other EE (my avatar). I cried for weeks! :hit I knew he was a rooster - he was crowing at 5 1/2 weeks!

I do the same thing. I open the windows every morning so I can hear them better. I love that sound. :)
