egg that wouldn't crack

Um... is it possible it's a ceramic egg? Did you put any fakes in your next box? Some of them look insanely real, but when you "crack" it open it's a thick shell and otherwise empty.
Exactly my thoughts....have read about it happening before.

It wouldn't have occurred to me in a million years. I never used them myself, though. When I needed a decoy, I just sacrificed a real egg marked with a sharpie. Lol! I thought it was really clever when Rosemary mentioned that possibility.

Someone posted just such an occurrence some time ago. They had collected a ceramic egg out of the nest, and fought their way into it, only to find it empty. We had a lot of fun with that situation!
That's probably the one I was remembering...we all, including the OP, had quite the chuckles!!

I have ceramic eggs, and have read on here that some are hollow inside. I have never broke any of mine.
I don't mistakenly collect my fakes, because I bought white fakes. All my girls lay brown eggs. GC

I've collected my fakes after the pencil lines wear off, but have never tried to crack one or sell one, usually catch them in the coop when I count the fakes(6) after collecting every night.

I think we're all remembering the same one... it was fascinating because I had never thought about what the interior of a fake would look like (I always assumed they'd be solid), and frankly I was amazed the person who posted had managed to smash their way through what looked like a few millimeters of durable fake shell.
