Egg too small, duckling pipped, struggling to breathe, no noise, day 28 - pic attached

Still going strong 😁. No mates yet, but they're coming. I tried to find a ducking to buy while he waits but didn't have any luck. I put some stuffed animals and mirrors into his condo

(Ignore the useless thermometer. It's not accurate so I'm using it to keep the duckling from getting behind the humidifier. I had 4 different thermometer/hygrometers set up and all 4 we're different. I gave up and bought a second terrarium control set up. There's a probe above the thermometer which goes to a reptile temp controller. There a sensor for the humidity behind it. Can’t wait to see his mates!

It has. I thought I had sent a picture of his bum, but I don't see it.

And here's the brooder...

The little wooden box is a small hall of mirrors.

I should add that the thermometer/hygrometer in the picture is completely useless and is being used as a wall to keep the duckling from getting behind the humidifier. I use reptile equipment for climate control.

Last night he internally pipped and I heard him chirping. I got up this morning and he had tried to externally pip or the wrong end. There was a star crack in the egg, but he had stopped moving for over 12 hours, so I went ahead and made him a breathing hole. I also peeled a little of the top layer of shell so he could get his break through. The white membrane is still there though. He made his way through the white membrane for his break.

I will sit on my hands now that he can breathe. Lol

My head is spinning a bit. I thought that if he pipped the correct end then he would externally pip the correct end. I'm confused as to why he would turn around at the last minute and head the wrong way. He was chirping, and I saw his bill in the air sac. Was a big shadow triangle

These little ones are so spicy! Definitely the right species for my house. Hahaha
