I thought I'd share this with all the shipped eggs people are getting that seem hopeless. I have an egg in the incubator that had a completely detached aircell, one that went from one side of the egg to the other, the aircell was also broken with it being in several bubbles clustered together. Well I set it anyway in an egg holder so it'd stay upright. Surprisingly it was the only egg out of 29 that had a damaged aircell, the rest had perfect ones. Now it's on day 17 & still developing! Now that the veins have spread throughout the egg it has held the the aircell in the right place for the most part, although I still wouldn't lay it on its side.

I just wanted to post this to give hope to people that receive shipped eggs that are damaged that there is still hope, you just have to incubate them a little different (like putting them upright) than eggs with perfect aircells. I'll post pics if it hatches, it's a bantam EE in a green/blue egg.

Thank you for posting! Now I'm hopeful! I just got my first shipped eggs a few days ago and the postal workers did NOT like me apparently. They were packaged great. Nearly all had detached, or broken aircells. They had clustered like you described in a lot. Not many in good condition. Anyway, I set them all in an egg carton and I'm hopeful, its day 2 now I think LOL We shall see what happens! Hopefully I'll have some sweet silkie babies in a few weeks!

im my recent hatch i had one egg that had a detached air cell and despite me proping it up to try and get it to develop it didnt. I wasnt holding out much hope but to my suprise it pipped through and with a little bit of helped hatched into a healthy baby chick.

You just never know!

Almost every egg I get in the mail has a detached air cell yet I can still get up to 50% to hatch. They just have to be stood up in an egg carton and tilted gently. Some will "heal" and go on to hatch.

Thanks for the info. I wish I would have known this 15 days ago when I got in around 30 eggs with detached air cells. I put them in the 'bator but didn't stand them up. A few are developing, but the rest are clear.

Isn't it sad that this has almost always happened to you and many others I'm sure. I am hatching 12 shipped eggs now. Almost all have detached air cells and one was cracked. They were double boxed and very well packaged. Luckily, all 12, including the repaired cracked one, are alive and about to go to lock down. USPS doesn't give a #%&@ about the markings on the shipping package. Shame on them. It takes a pretty hard jolt to detach the air cell. Take an egg from the fridge, check it's air cell, jar it with a quick jolt, and check it again. You'll hear a popping sound when it detaches. It's a cheap test and you can still eat the egg. I think they literally toss them around, no matter what the package says. There's obviously no performance regulations with the USPS. They can abuse the precious cargo and suffer no consequences. It's shameful.
