Could you call Cutler's and see if they could ship tomorrow morning and then cancel the other 'bator? Or better yet, don't cancel the order and then you could have two!!

Sounds familiar......

My eggs arrived on a thursday.... my bator hadn't shipped yet - I called and emailed the place no reply - by Friday - I was IRATE as the bator had not shipped yet - I was PROMISED it would be, I canceled that order and called Cutler - to cut a long story short, fedex and ups don't deliver to my rural area on a saturday - so my eggs had to wait, bator arrived on Monday - at that point a week old already - I got them in and all settled on Tuesday.....

Out of 14 eggs, only 4 hatched.

I would do something tomorrow early. Call GQF and Cutler first thing. Cutler were out the first of the week and got a load in. I got mine today. Explain to Cutler the deal if they will ship tomorrow without any delay, then call GQF and cancel. Cutler has a better price, this is what I would do. Store those eggs little end down @ 55-60 if possible.

So I ask this question....which comes first the bator or the eggs. The reason I didnt order from GQF was they said it would take 2 weeks they were swamped with orders. Their price was higher also.

What would you think of my starting them in the skillet and then moving them to the 'bator when it actually gets here???? vs. leaving them in the skillet the whole time. I had planned to set up a skillet for the hatching anyway, so that would leave that free for that part....

The 'bator, by the way is a H-B 1588 with turner...

Many set eggs in one bator and then move them, so that shouldn't be a problem. PM me if you decide to go this route and have trouble.

If you can just remind me of the temp and humidity at which I need the skillet to be stabilized before I put in 6 eggs, I would appreciate it. The eggs are being stored in an egg carton in a cooler. Thermometer indicated that they probably went down as low as 39 last night. Hopefully I can get everything set up and stabilized and start them on their way by tomorrow morning.

Ah, well, I will just have to try my best and I'm sure I'll be shouting for help.

I would wrap them loosely in a towel, set them in a box and lower a heat lamp just above them. Use a thermometer to check the temp so it doesn't get too high. It should get them started and give you time till the bator arrives. For heat lamps I use the 150+ watt flood light bulbs - you can fry an egg under one of those babies. I have to be really careful when I use them over my brooder box so that it doesn't get too hot.

Many old farmers just use a wooden box and a high wattage (heat lamp) bulb to hatch their eggs.

I would think getting them warm and started would be better than chilling them and delaying longer.
