Eggs cold for 24 hours....viable embryos...UPDATE 6/8 hatched.

just went into lockdown... threw 7 emptys away.. have 32 eggs ...15 EE and the rest bantam.. (seabright or serama/oeg... ) hoping the loss of power didnt kill them.. they were at 85 and not sure for how long... could have been all night... am hopeful, but i have to say, they stink... not individually though, yes i smelled them all... but collectively they smell. wish me luck, and to the other power loss hopefuls, good luck to you.. will let you know what happens.. sure want those seabrights, parents were murdered.

The day they arrived the sat on the hood of a black truck that sits in my driveway in 90+ degree heat. I was sure all were lost, but to only have 5 not develop I feel pretty lucky. I'm due to hatch July 8th.
As a sidenote, I had about a 3 hour power outage on my first run, I just didn't worry about it, and they turned out just fine. I don't have room in this incubator for rocks or jars of water, I used one of those little 6 dollar gas station coolers. But I bought a big cooler to put all my innerds in after I get done with this hatch.
This has been the most fun for me and my family. The boys (7 and 8) just love making fuzzybutts.

I definitely wouldn't give up. When I took an embryology class in college we dissected chicks at every stage of development. The eggs were put into the refrigerator to kill them well before class at the later stages . Many of my classmates still had live chicks even though it wasn't supposed to be possible. Not sure if they would still have hatched, but the incubator would still be much warmer than the fridge.

Thanks Misssc... now i am confident again...

....im trying egg cartons this time as well.. figured what the heck.. last hatch i hatched for 3 days and bator did get opened too much.. i brought the humidity right back up but it got ugly at the end.. i helped the last 2 and one was so fat and fluffy, it died that night just a big fluff pile. i wont help again EVER. the late hatchers had messed up legs too.. fixed one, the other suffered.. had to cull it after 4 days. learned alot these last 2 hatches...growing a thick skin when it comes to "only the strong survive"... i cannot abide suffering.

... i think i shouldnt have used egg cartons, wish i wouldnt have.. it seems too crowded in there with cartons, hygrometer, sponges.. yikes. i screwed up i think.................plus it still stinks .

ok now im about to freak out.. second pip on a big green EE.. first time hatching in cartons... the egg is pipped 3/4 of the way down at the small end.........now what? dont understand.. i guess i shouldnt have tried the carton thing. it s pretty big pip, will he get out?

hes making progress... i really dont want to open it.. the banty is zipping. (2 different eggs) if the banty hatches, and i cant see any more pips i might consider opening.
