Lollll. .... I not dare say ewe!!!! Although is this a Midwest or southern thing... I was born in Italy and I'm very strong with my Italian lines so I mean we eat anything... But I never tried squirrel I heard of it.. lol

That's funny! My youngest son hunts squirrel at his dad's. They have stewed it and they marinate and do kabobs. We have huge squirrels eat our bird seed in spring and winter. We decided this year we are going to give them a try since we prefer the birds!
Mom would marinate the stuff for days in salt water and wine before pan-frying it. Most of the time, though, she just stewed it with mushrooms in "red gravy," aka tomato sauce. GOOD STUFF!
 
Nope, no weird "alfredo" sauces for me, either. Now, a little olive oil, lots of garlic and a bit of heavy cream? THAT I can work with!
Have you made alfredo from scratch? It's simple and so much better than the garbage you buy in a jar. I really like to make it with grana padano (or american grana to save a bit of cash - I know is not the same...) instead of parmesan. Ultimately, it is butter, cream, cheese and garlic. Add a pinch of salt, some pepper and some herbs... bon appetit!
 
Yes alfredo from scratch is tge ONLY way. And garlic it up! I can eat just roasted garlic cloves like candy! But I will eat Italian (yes authentic) any day! Only thing I have to pass on is olives!! I know, probably a mortal sin in the mother land lol.

Ok...fun off shoot topic buuuut... back to eggs!

If not for this thread going off a little, I would still have my cockerels awaiting unknown futures. But Pride is the new flock man and I now kniw to wait til at least next spring for "breeding" if I choose to hatch any delicious fertilized eggs. So I have gotten 2 major concerns answered!
 
I was hoping I was directed to! I think I have a winner in him and now I get to look up slaughter/butcher stories for the other two. My dad always did that part and I didn't watch as a young girl. Just axe n stump. Will be the same here. Ugh
I haven't processed any, but, I have read quite a bit on here about processing your own birds (getting ready for mine when I get them) and personally I would use the cone method (don't need a real cone, people have used gallon milk jugs and bleach bottles as cones).

The axe and stump method just seems unsafe to bird and human. If the bird moves, you can just nick it and cause suffering, if you try to hold the bird still on both ends (do you have 3 hands??) so it doesn't move, then you have hands very close to a swinging sharp object and have a good chance of removing fingers as well as heads... Unless you somehow rig bungee chords or something to hold him down....
 
Cannot do the cone. Watching an animal bleed out is beyond my scope of capability. Might do it to make a quick cut but no artery snipping for this gal. Idk why but to me the cone method seems very impersonal and barbaric and scary for the animal...upside down in a device with someone pulling your head. I considered a cone type something for at the chopping block. My dad never had issues though. Have to be pretty bad to miss a 2 inch neck with an 8 or 10 inch cleaver lol. I saw him hold them but never watch him strike them. They did nothing more than look frozen stiff once held down. But yes I do have more research to do. Thinking my buddy down the road will have to come do these 2 cockerels while I learn. Maybe her method will be something I am capable of.
