Eggs for food vs eggs for chicks...sound off please

Pics
I wish had could raise more meat around here. We do raise quail for meat and eggs. In fact I have 38 quail eggs set hatch in the next week, many of which are meant for meat. We would like to get into rabbits. I know somebody through BYC about 1.5 hours away who is breeding rabbits, so I may get into them soon. I would really like to get more land one day and raise goats and sheep, as well as more chickens, ducks and turkeys for meat rather than just eggs and pets.
I have always wanted goats for soaps and lotions. And they are so incredibly entertaining!

Too bad your not near CT... I have the BEST meat rabbits ... Standard rex rex all diff. Colors.

My mother used to fix squirrel for us on a regular basis. She told us it was "fried chicken." It was ages before I understood why Mom chuckled every time my little brother found "a wishbone!"
Your mother would barter and fry squirrel? Sounds interesting. I haven't had the opportunity to have squirrel yet, but I always heard of it as being stewed or cooked in gravy. I assumed it was too lean and too little meat to bother frying. I would definitely chomp on a squirrel nugget though!

Yeah, so goats are another "go slowly" addition and I say that having just two that we've never bred yet. Not quite as fast as chickens, but they are prolific and if you think chickens can get into things, phew. Goats are something else. At least they come when they're called, unlike all my chickens. The chickens, in their own defense, don't break stuff. Lots and lots of stuff. But what would I do with the mountains of kudzu without the goats? I mean, you can eat it, we do eat it, but only really fresh stuff and we have acres and acres and those two tiny goats doing their very best to eat one more bite, lol.

That's funny! My youngest son hunts squirrel at his dad's. They have stewed it and they marinate and do kabobs. We have huge squirrels eat our bird seed in spring and winter. We decided this year we are going to give them a try since we prefer the birds!

Yay a converter.... What was it that turned you off initially??? I mean my girls have never seen a rooster .... So they are FAR from being fertile... I could understand or at least begin to understand that part lol

No. I’m picky about food and worry about food that might be off. We tested all of the eggs to make sure they were fresh and then I was okay to try them.
