So, I just put some Marans and Welsummer eggs into the incubator last night. They were shipped and got stuck in a few towns along the way, so shipping took about a week. Along with this, they seem as if they had been dropped a few times during shipping as well. A few eggs were broken when they got here, which would have been very difficult to do through all of the perfectly done packaging. Anyways, I just checked on the eggs to see how the air cells were looking today, and 5 of the eggs are stuck to the auto turner! I managed to get 2 of them out, but unfortunately broke one when trying to get it out. The other two are still stuck and I’m not really sure what to do about those. They seem to have some whites leaking out of the pores that is causing them to get stuck. One even looks like it has yolk coming out of the pores!! I’ve hatched a few batches of eggs before, but never shipped, and I’ve never seen this happen before. Does anyone have any insight or recommendations?

In this image you can see the two that are still stuck to the turner, as well as the one I broke and some of the ooze thag is coming out of the eggs.

I’ve wanted these breeds for many years, and I payed an arm and a leg to get them. Nothing seems to be going right with this hatch and it’s not even considered day 1 yet. Ugh!:he:rant:mad:
Anyways, a few things I didn’t mention:
The auto turner was off because many of the eggs have floating, detached air cells. I was allowing them to try and reattach.
the eggs that I broke was so stuck that a ring of shell was stuck and I had to chip it off bit by bit.
also, I have some water on the eggs to try and unstick them. The only other thing I can think of doing is putting some oil on them or hot water.
the remaining 7 eggs have been placed in an egg carton and are back in the incubator.

I'm so sorry. It looks really bad. Shipping is extra terrible right now, and it looks like your eggs got scrambled. :(
Yea. I couldn’t see well enough with candling yesterday to tell if they were scrambled. I’m not surprised at all, and I will definitely be filing for a claim. Luckily my eggs were insured, so I might be able to get a new shipment.

So, update. I ended up just breaking the eggs to get them out. I figured that if they were oozing, they wouldn’t be viable, so no need to keep them in one piece. All three of the eggs that were broken had intact yolks, and they were fertile. :barnie
