"Eggtopia" 10-19-08 update pg 8 The Girls are Inside...

Thanks for the compliments...I have passed them on to the menfolk.

I am not sure about insulating just yet. I am putting on a metal roof which will be insulated. I think I will try this winter out with a heat lamp and such...if insulation is needed, I will go it next Spring. Meanwhile, some primer and paint on the walls will do for now.

My goal is to have solar power for the coop but an extension cord and backup generator will take care of it for now.

I am making lines curtains for their picture window this winter. hehehehe

Can I just borrow the men-folk after you're done? The ones in California are lacking in the coop-building skills - at least the ones I know personally!

It looks great! Definitely looks like a relaxing cabin setting versus a coop. Your girls are very lucky indeed!

starshrike I could send them but I will not be responsible for your mental well-bring...they are a nuisance! All three of them. hehehehehehe

Thanks for the compliments, I will pass it on to them. We have so many predators coming through the yard that it has to be secure and tough. LOL

One fox in particular is about to go...he actually went inside and used my floor as a potty. I will have no fox marking territory in my girls' place.

They are ready for the coop..they are currently in the garage and getting tired of being carried outside each day to their tractors..I am tired of carrying 32 of them in and out myself. hahahaha

Oh the girls have a picture window! Yup a 4' H x 6' wide picture window that slides open...and it will be covered with hardwire cloth. They have a pop door and my exterior run door is in so now just to make the hardwire cloth door for the inside.

Much left to do but they are ready, they watch the construction process daily and all the big girls have inspected it.

I got the remaining poles for the run concreted in so we are moving close...

And my neat find...vinyl remnants...I hope the girls do not have issues with the flooring not matching but I got all of it for $35 and will have enough to out inside the nest boxes under the hay for easier cleaning, cover any shelves and for a roost dropping pad...so they will have to do with it. I tried to make sure all the colors were in a matching color theme.

I would need 16 yds and I have at least 18 - 20 yds so I am not complaining.

My goal is to have the girls moved in by the end of next week...whew! A lot of work left to do.

Just picked up this thread today - your progress is amazing and the shed is looking almost as big and strong as the stable my husband built for our horse. It is so nice to see pictures of nice weather - if you were building that in the UK at the moment all you would be able to see would be mud, rain and dripping workers!!

Please tell your menfolk that they are heros to all of us here at BYC. They are doing an admirable job. Good for you for planning a big enough coop for all the girls you're going to have!

Thanks BuffHooligans...I will tell them. I figured I need 128 sq ft so I built 144 sq ft. Gives them a little extra wing room. Plus I am planning on cutting out the portion for the door opening to the inside so shavings will not get in the way.

Thanks redoak!

jacyjones...I feel for you. I know you are getting rain. My sister was stationed in the UK and it was this time of year when I visited...it rained and rained. We will start getting out rain in a month or so.
