so, its day 22 and my button hen got off the nest (i am assuming she new they didn't make it because she is usually such a dedicated mother) the eggs got cold so i broke them open to see what happened (eggtopsy) 3 were infertile and 3 were fully developed chicks. this has now happened three times:hit i feel so bad for my hen. she has gone broody 8 times in a row now and she is doing everything right. what is wrong??!!!:th they always develop fully and then die before the hatch:barnie. Please help. i cannot handle this again. is it possible that she or he has some leathal chick gene?? please help. i have been bawling all day:hit i am so sad. look how cute they are!!!!!:hit

that's so sad! Two Golden Pearls bred together I have read is lethal. Most, if not every chick will die in the shell, and any survivors soon after. We don't have GPs in New Zealand, but I've been doing a lot of research in possible chick deaths, as my Button chicks have almost reached maturity, and I plan on breeding them.

Has she ever sucessfully hatched little ones before? You could get in touch with a breeder, and slip some new eggs under her, Or let her sit for a couple of days before slipping some new hatched chicks under her. These are just suggestions, It is hearbreaking that her babies have died.
