I just hatched out 6 very healthy Texas a&m quail but the last two eggs never progressed. They were actively moving during lockdown but must of died recently. I did the float test on them and there was nothing. I decided to open them and it was a bit disturbing. They both had cross beaks and one was missing both eyes. The other only had one. Why would this happen? Genetics? Vitamin deficiency? Or something I did during incubation? Here's a picture of the two. Its really sad, sorry, but I want to figure out what happened. The others are perfect.

Its my first hatch so its a learning process I guess. My temps did go up to 104 a few days ago for about an hour. But the lack of eyes signal something went wrong in the early development. I hope it wasn't something I did... I thought I had everything good during the incubation. My husband was even annoyed BC I was checking it constantly! Lol...oh well, at least I have 6 happy chicks in the brooder! : )

That's one of the problems with trying to figure out what happened. There are so many possible causes, some under your control and some not. At least you opened them to try to define the problem. Good luck on solving it.
