Egypt - Important situation to Americans with world wide implications

My prayers are going up. I'm hopeful that all things will be used for good eventually, and I want to believe that the efforts of these folks come to good- they have hopes for better, and I want to believe that the world has room for improvement.

I pray for peace.

I just want my niece out of there! She is a junior at Notre Dame and is supposed to stay in Cairo until May for a study program. We are very concerned for her safety as well as other Americans! I pray that they will be safe and back home soon!

I, also, have been paying attention, and I keep hearing the handwringing, about extreme muslims stepping in, and grabbing control.

That's not what I am seeing....Wasn't it 2 years ago, when the young Iranians rose up, in protest and got quashed by their govt? Tunisia has just thrown out their totalitarian ruler. And now, Egypt....I believe it's a cry for freedom, which many desire, but few have tasted.

The largest irony of all is, the country, which has held forth the torch of freedom, for all to see, is now driving hard to become a country, where every little thing has some kind of rule or regulation attached, thus giving the govt. the ability to control every activity which we persue.

They say that Egypt is #2 in the world for the amount of foreign aid we give. I know we do it to protect our interest, just like everything else we do over there. It's obviously very important strategically. It's too bad the governments we support in order to protect our interest are so bad on human rights. It really leaves us open for the kind of stuff that is happening there. The guys supporting the uprising are not good guys. We will have some serious problems if they get power.

I would not make any such assumptions about who is supporting this particular uprising!

The Muslim Brotherhood was out in the street.

They were throwing rocks.

Some old men walked up behind them, and as a group, wrapped their arms around them, so they could not throw their rocks.

Indirectly. The immigrant workers from Mexico are paid by people here to do things like remodeling and construction stuff. Then those workers send the money back home and it helps Mexicos economy.

So the government doesn't give the aid directly, but the citizens do. It's against regulations but they do it anyway. Freedom of choice and all that stuff.

Israel is number 1 of course. Israel and Egypt account for 1/3rd of all foreign aid. I bet you thought we gave foreign aid to people that needed it. No it's foreign aid to protect us.

The news tonightbsounded like the Islamic missions are getting involved. They will pro ably end up controlling Egypt! Wonder how "our"mission president will react to that!

Are you sure it's Muslims doing it or is it the Al Queda and their puppets doing it?

I dont think the Egyptian president could tolerate any kind of terrorists moving in or promoting violence.
