Ellie's Flock!

Here's a chicken story of the day (might make this a thing, idk)

So, I have an EE named Gracie (Gold). She is 3 years old. She has seperation issues, and you never see her without Sadie, or the new pullets. Last May, she got very sick with something I didn't know. View attachment 1586924
I had no idea what it was, and she was sick, getting worse and worse every day.
On day 3, I honestly thought was going to die. I created a thread and the symptoms were random. The help I got was very helpful, nevertheless.
I was just holding Gracie in my arms (again, she cries when she's alone) when suddenly, this popped out.

And after some research, I found she had a lash egg. (she lays green eggs)
I did everything to help her, and she got so much better.
Within three days, she was out mingling with the others:

And even though she cannot lay anymore, I am still so thankful that she lived.
She is such an interesting bird though, so many stories.
Eeeeeeekk!! WHAT is that that popped out:sick...? And what is lash leg??

One more question... this is my coop.. the door stays open and you can see a part at the top that’s open.. I was wondering if they’ll be okay like this? We usually only have a few hours a night of freezing temps... and when should I make adjustments? Like, if we get well below freezing? Or if it stays freezing for long periods?
We did get quite a bit of snow last year... which is rare but AWESOME :celebrate:ya:wee:ya:celebrate.... that was us ALL day!!!!!:lau

You might want to get those plastic wrap/sheet things to put around the edges of the coop (they are at home depot, i think) and they block out wind and stuff. I personally have never used them, but looking at that for the coop this year. Also, if you haven't already, make the roosting stick a bit wider so it is flat for feet. This way, their toes are under the fluff.
