Emergency! Babies in storm drain! Update: They are safe!

Pics
@Texag87 the ones left with mom will have a better chance of making it since she won’t have so many to care for as long as they stay out of that storm drain
Good point. I was hoping she would steer clear of the drain from now on. I could not get them to eat feed , only one ate mealworms. They are still too exhausted and scared. Put electrolytes in water. Will try again later. We need sleep ourselves.

I'm trying not to think about the momma and her other babies... but I'm going to cut a 2x2 piece and take it over there to put on the grate. Hopefully there aren't anymore down there when I do... or I'll probably end up in jail and fired.
That drain is big enough for a child to fall into. Ask them if they want to be named in THAT lawsuit!

You are heroes!!!!! Good begets good. Whatever becomes of Paul Blart's complaints means nothing when weighed against saving those 5 littles. You just made the world a much better place!

I hope the news stations or newspapers get involved. This is the kind of love and compassion that needs to be celebrated and shared!!!!

One of my fave quotes:
"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."

I always wanted to tell you I like the name for your location. As far as taking them back, it is not practical today. We are about 9o miles from where they were found.
Remember that they are babies raised wild, not in an incubator or hatchery. They are imprinted on momma duck and will be very afraid of you. Getting them to eat will be tough. Sprinkle food on water so they see it move on the surface. Wetting the food in a dish so that it is very soft will help them start to eat too. Try poking a couple of live mealworms down into the wet food so they get a taste of it when going for the mealworm. Look for some outside bugs like sow bugs, small earthworms and use those too. For the time being, don't stand there to watch them eat. As long as they can see you, they won't eat.
