EMERGENCY: Broody killed all chicks but one egg. Still hope?

This is their first time. There were actually two moms and I believe both killed the chicks ...I guess they will both be for egg production from now on...

Did you have two broody hens together?

The egg just went in the incubator. Temp at 99.1 right now with a sponge. Still chirping.

I wonder if they were fighting over the chicks? I've heard that can happen but have no experience with brooding hens.

That’s the problem. Don’t kill the hen. Broody hens should be kept separate.

Oh my goodness! I feel so bad! I guess I thought that one would keep an eye on the eggs while the other was away. Lesson learned the hard way....

Is 99.1 okay for a still air? I can’t seem to make it any warmer. Is cooler better than warmer for hatching?

99.1 should be ok. Technically yes a little cooler is better than too hot.
The egg may not hatch though. Good luck.

Cooler is ok. Its probably just having a hard time compensating for the water in the sponge. Be careful it doesnt run dry you could have a temperature spike. Maybe get a dish of water that the sponge can sit in.

Oh no! I’m afraid to open the incubator now. The sponge was pretty saturated and the egg is rocking and peeping now. Should I open the incubator or just leave things be. The temp is slowly rising (99.8)
