A chick just hatched with its yolk sac the size of a marble has not been absorbed. Can I do anything?

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure if you just leave it, it will absorb it and be just fine. I 'helped' one of mine out of its shell too soon recently (a duckling under a broody duck) and it still had quite the yolk sack. Next morning it was the size of a pea and a week later the duckling is going strong. They do need the energy/nutrients from it in those first days.

Yes just leave it. if there is anything you can do to limit the movement of the chick until it is absorbed that would be good. If the chicks is already being pretty much still just leave it it will finish absorbing it.

The chick "yolk" sac seems it might have some blood in it too. It also is breatheing a little hard too.

Don't know about the blood, maybe someone else will. Will keep the fingers crossed that your little guy pulls through.
