Hello! I am in a bit of a tough situation. My hen was attacked by my dog, and has developed sour crop. I’m not sure if it developed before or after the attack. I am trying to research how to test it but there are so many different treatments I don’t know which one is best to use! I’m very nervous about trying to clear the blockage, and forcing her to regurgitate is a last resort for me. Additionally, because of the virus I can’t easily go out and buy medication or go to a vet. What is the best treatment? I’ve read that Miconazole can help, but I’m not sure how to give it to her. Please help!

I recommend apple cider vinegar, if you happen to have any. A little bit in the water. Garlic is anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti viral so it might help to give her half a clove. I've been in this situation.... Hated the thought of turning a hen upside down and possibly harming her.. Hope it all goes well. Was she hurt much by the dog?

Update:
Things are getting worse. She hasn’t pooped since yesterday, and her poop was all white with some grass in it. And it stinks to high heaven in the room she’s in, holy cow. I think last night she vomited, as there is some bile on the floor.
Here is the treatment right now:
Twice a day, I’m mixing miconazole with water and using a dropper to give it to her, as she will not eat anything.
Twice a day, I’m giving her water with garlic and apple cider vinegar.
I’m massaging her crop every few hours.
Please please help me if you have any advice or treatments, I’m getting very worried about her!

I am so sorry about your girl! :hugs

Physical and mental trauma can certainly throw off digestion, however if she is pooping a lot of grass, it sounds to me like she has an imapaction somewhere in her system, anywhere from the crop, gizzard or stomach.

You can use a couple different meds to help break the impaction down.

Do you have any mineral oil? 1ml orally twice daily (once in the morning, once in the evening) will help.

If you don't have mineral oil do you have plain Dulcolax stool softener without the laxatives? Just plain Docusate Sodium 100mg. Pick open one pill, squeeze onto something she will eat, twice daily. (If she is not eating you can give this orally too. (You can mix it into the vaginal cream)

And I would continue with the vaginal cream to keep the yeast at bay.

You probably don't have any Acidified Copper Sulfate, this is my go to thing when birds have bad sour yeasty crops. You can get this here...
https://www.twincitypoultrysupplies.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=340 This will not cure an impaction but it's just nice to have on hand for standard sour crops and even for impactions to kill off bad yeasts and unhealthy bacteria that tends to make the bird sick.
