So very sorry........ Normally with a respitory illness you will see swelling on the face, or open mouth breathing . The hole behind the tongue goes to the airway. If she had injured her throat by something ingested, then it could get infected and if the infection went into the blood stream it could kill her in mins. I once had a hen with bumble foot, I started cleaning out the wound and she went from fine to dead in less than a min. The staph infection went to her blood stream that quick.......

Really an Owl hit?
I skinned her completely to check for any underlying damage and found nothing at all, not a bite or bruise one.

But you were right she had a sinus infection and that is what killed her.

I thought I read she had a small injury? Sometimes an owl will hit a peahen from a tree- flushing her and she'll survive with just an injury or die from a talon puncture and impact damage. Sinus infections are awful.

She had a scratch but it had already healed and it was a meer scratch once i got a better look. sorry for the confusion.

Have a good friend that has recenty finished a 5000 sq ft fenced area with netting above and going around tree trunks to keep her peafowl home. She lost several birds from eating rat poison on a neighboring propterty. So many dangers out there. I'm thinking of doing the same thing for my peafowl. I am so very very sorry for your loss. I know the pain only to well.

Have a question. The peas do yawn some don't they? If not I may have a problem.

So sorry Zaz, that you lost your beautiful DI, I loved seeing her pics.

bdfive, do a search on here RE: Gapeworm.
I think one of the symptoms is yawning, open mouth & struggling to breath....

If that is what you suspect you have then worming is in order. That same search will
provide dosage.

I have edited this to correct info .....

Thanks you Trailchick,
Hey , Just in case i need it how does one administer fish Zole and can i get it at walmart or do i have to find a pet store to get it?
I put ivermectin on the peas every 3 months so hopefully that will prevent some things.
