Emergency -- sick cat please help

As for another update, my mom talked to the neighbor and he said the cat actually showed up at their house and had some oil on him a little while ago, and they're thinking he got sick trying to clean it off of himself.

The neighbor said they have tried to catch him to help him but haven't been able to. Hopefully either one of us can help him, but I don't know if we'll ever be able to catch him. :/ My mom decided to cancel the call to animal control since we know what's going on and we didn't want to risk having him just put down in the end even if he can be helped.

I'll try to keep you updated if we ever are able to help him or talk to the neighbor again. Thanks everyone for your help!

I know there is a place here that will do cheap spay and neuter on feral cats. If you can catch them in a trap and bring them in you don’t need an appointment. They tip the ear so as not to trap the cat again.

You can see if there is a similar place near where you live. They may be able to help trap him as well.

I should look for one of those places, I was thinking of looking for some rescue or something that might want to take him in...but again I don't know if we'll be able to catch him or that there's even a place nearby that isn't a long drive. I may be able to by putting out food, should we find a place that'd help him and not just put him down, because he'll walk over to the food even though he doesn't eat it, poor thing.

My mom also has a friend who's husband is a veterinarian that she said she might email or text the friend to see if he can give us some guidance.

If he's that wary of strangers, doubtful that a rescue would take him in, because they're mission is to adopt out pets, usually. Although some adopt out feral "barn cats" if you're in a rural area. Better to take him to an agency that does Trap-N-Release (TNR), where they spay/neuter, give shots, and tip the ear, then you let him back into his colony.

I would put out a live trap or a dog crate with tuna fish or canned chicken and see if you can trap him. Then take him to a vet to get treated and checked over for injuries.

Hopefully he felt well enough to come to you to get help, and hasn't gone into hiding to die, poor baby. My mom's indoor/outdoor cat disappeared for 3 days and then showed up out of nowhere with a nasty wound. I think their first instinct is to hide, lick their wounds, and try to heal up and gather their strength in case they get attacked again. Then go look for help.

Males do very well in trap neuter return situations. He can no longer repopulate the area but will defend it keeping another male from moving in. Feral cats can be beneficial as long as they don't become a nuisance.
If his jaw is broken he will need extra care for a while until it heals. Really his quality of life won't be known until a vet sees him.

Call your local sheriffs department or animal control immediately.

Tell them that he’s drooling profusely.
That might make them hurry.

Whatever the circumstances, drooling in a cat is HIGHLY unusual.

He’s terribly ill and has come to you for help. I would NOT recommend touching him or coming into contact with him at all.

Do you have a dog crate?
If you put a warm towel in it he may go in willingly.

If so, shut the door.
Obviously in this scenario this is not the case, but I knew a cat once who drooled profusely when he was happy being petted. The vet said sometimes they do that when they are extremely happy.
I don't remember it being foamy though. Just very very wet :gig
