Emergency Volunteers: Firefighters, EMT's, First Responders

Basics are suppossed to "step back" when a P arrives on scene?!?!?! No wonder they get a God complex. Here, they do all of the things that only they can do (IV's, IO's, EKG), and the B's do everything else, as well as assist with all the paramedic stuff. My squad has been 100% basic for thirty years, and we just got our first P two weeks ago. He's also the youngest on the crew, and we're not yet ready to bow to him. We're super fortunate to finally be able to serve our patients better, and we're hoping that our new P is humble enough to be a valuable team member as opposed to a haughty boss.

I am a paramedic, have been in ems for 11 years paramedic for 4. I worked every level (basic, intermediate, and para). The "paragods" are annoying, even to paramedics, but so are the know it all "critical care basics". We all have a common goal, to deliver the pt to the ER in better shape then we found them, every level has an important role in that goal, and NO ONE, no matter how good a paramedic, or how seasoned a basic can do that job by themselves, it is a team effort and ego's should be checked at the door.

I wondered who hired those Yahoos ? The crew is still in that small town, unfortunately. No wonder elderly folks are moving closer to big towns.

I wanna run with you!

One of my first runs with our paramedic, then a basic, was with just the two of us. We packaged the pt and opened the back doors of the truck. He ordered me sharply to load him, and he strutted around to the front, and got in. I guess it never occurred to me that he was being bossy; I just assumed that he didn't know how to work the levers on the cot! Turns out, I was right.

Anyone have funny fire/EMS stories, that can be related without violating HIPAA? I'm sure there are tons.....

I am constantly worried about that. I recently lost 30 lbs (intentionally) now my pants fit much looser and feels like my zipper is open.

I had a partner who had a serious code brown while trying to get from the restaraunt to the station, and didn't make it.

I think wether that is funny or not depends on perspective though, while I found it disgusting and funny, don't think that was the view of my partner.

Sorry but just picturing it, I wanted to laugh or feel disgusted. I feel for him!

I once ran into a storm door in front of the patient's wife. It was a very clean door.

One guy did an entire run with a sock stuck to the back of his pants. It must've been a CareFlight run, because we were hanging out in the side ditch afterwards when he noticed it. He threw it on the ground in embarrassment, but we wouldn't let him litter.
