EMOJI HATCH ALONG 5/18 incubation

I got really overwhelmed with the hatching
Of course you were with multiple incubators hatching simultaneously left and right! :hugs
The chick that might not make it is in the back with a fluid pocket under its skin. You can see where the feathers are not covering it.
How about naming the little one Hunchy?

Hunchy. That’s funny.

My husband says that chick is strong and seems to not really notice the fluid sac. So we’re hoping it’ll absorb and it isn’t actually “mushy chick”.

"Mushy chick" is actually something different as it is a term used for chicks that have contracted a bacterial infection via the umbilicus which can happen when they hatch early before the opening is completely closed after absorbing the yolk.
Their abdomen will swell continously and become a more blueish reddish colour due to the raging infection.
Sadly, most of them will die after a few days.

So is there a different issue that can cause just fluid over the side of the back like the chick has?

I come bearing pictures!!
