empy box from Murray mcmurray

I think there's alot of assumption going on here. Let me explain the shipping process a little. The USPS doesn't fly it's own planes. All airmail is flown on second party flights. That would mean non USPS employees would have access. Second I've seen both banded and nonbanded shipments. If the package wasn't banded the contents could have spilled somewhere in transit. If the chicks were in a cargo hold no one would have noticed until possibly too late. As for a USPS employee taking 26 chicks without anyone noticing that would be very difficult to do. 26 live chicks are very noisy and would not be easily concealed. I think something is strange though that no one noticed the box was silent. Those little fuzzies are noisy and a quiet box should arrise suspicion. Is is possible to contact your local distribution center and ask if they remember the shipment. Something like that should stick out in their memeory. If it were silent when it arrived there then ask for the previous stop in route. Follow the trail back to the point where the box stopped chirping, if possible.

That being said I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. It must have been devistating to open that box.

I had one magazine subscription in particular that would always get "lost" on it's way to me. The company ended up wrapping it in plastic with a paper in front so it was not readily visible. This lasted for a couple months and then the magazine started to get "lost" again. I ended up moving a couple years ago and they were never "lost" again since.

No disrespect intended, I fully understand what you are saying about other people having access to your property while on second party flights, but does that mean that while they are in flight the usps is not responsible ? Correct me if im wrong but for someone to handle the us mail, don't they have to be related or have a commercial relationship with the USPS? Otherwise wouldn't that be concidered tampering with the us mail and isn't that a federal offence? I could be wrong!
And yes accidents happen, But like you said someone should have noticed the empty box. And reported it, however I also read that she wanted to fill out a report with the post office and they said it won't do any good because she didn't have the chicks insured. How many Postal employees know that little tidbit , Im assuming most if not all. Also I would like to Add that most people (including postal workers are honest) but that there are untrust worthy, theiving folks out there(including postal workers)
That will steal lie and cheat, ! IM not accusing the PO of doing the stealing but all the red flags are pointing in that direction. And I hope the situation gets resolved soon, Because I would hate to think that the USPS is letting just anybody handle my mail packages. Sandy

My box of chicks from Ideal came with that plastic strapping material - not tape - it can easily be cut off with no evidence of it ever having been pt on. Unless MM usually uses Tape to seal the boxes, then yeah, there'd be evidence of tape tampering.

It isn't the USPS delivers boxes full of dead chicks all the time and never notices or cares to notice. While your defense is admirable too many of us have seen the stupidity in action and been the recipicent of their carelessness.

Case in point several years ago I nearly lost a lawsuit and clients because paperwork mailed never. Well I was not the only one...the USPS carrier was going home at lunch time and doing whatever, tossing the mail bags in her garage and never delivering them...yeah she was eventually arrested, fired and yada yada but a lot of damage was done first because of nearly one month's worth of mail for her route was collecting dust in a garage.

JMHO but I can't see any employee risking their job over baby chicks, unless they were some very valuable chicks. And how would a they know that. Now rough handling is another story, and that could have happened anywhere along the line. But that would mean the top of the box had to actually come off and someone had to put it back on, at which point a report should have been filed. Also whether a package is insured or not if a crime is suspected the PO will file a report. I have dealt with them and am dealing with them on a egg scam fraud, and none of the eggs were insured. Trust me the postal inspectors take fraud very seriously. If the postal employee will not fill out a report contact the inspectors directly.

It is hard to believe that anybody would risk their livelyhoods for something that petty but they do! Sad but true, nobody expects to get caught. I can't begin to tell you all the people where i work that have been halled out in handcuffs for stealing a cd or what ever, I always felt that how could someone desire a free CD over a full time income, just doesn't make sense to me but they do it.
Also The only other thing missing beside the chicks was the invoice so whoever got them know at least what breeds they got . Sandy

Boy this thread is wearing me out! I just hope it gets resolved for her. Everybody have a good day!

Exactly my point why would someone risk their job to steal my flower seeds.
My husband said maybe they thought it was "weed seeds"
