Emu Hatch-a-long 2012

Egg 6 was a non fertile egg
sad.png
I was hoping that it was fertile even though I heard no noise or wiggling but I still have 4 eggs in the bator so we will see in a couple weeks if there is movement.

This week weight loss
#1 697
wk1 674
wk2 655
wk3 642

#2 704
wk1 683
wk2 664
wk3 650

It has slowed down but is still way ahead. I have increased the humidity. I am concerned that even if I can get it back on track, how will this rapid loss affect the egg?

Raptor, thank you again for the chart! What a huge help it has been

Here are this weeks weights. My last 4 eggs. If non hatch I will try to get more cause I do not want just one chick again. HOPEFULLY I can hatch a boy

Have you tried setting Egg 1 on a flat surface and looking for the "egg tilt"?
it's not 100% accurate. but if there's a chick in there it should have a more pronounced tilt than an infertile would

Yoda, what gives you the impression that one egg isn't fertile compared to another?
I believe Yoda's eggs are on day 28.. usually by then you can see a tilt to fertile eggs (like I said above it's not 100%.. and no guarantee that the chick would even be alive).
Incubating at 97.5 ºF the egg should start to wiggle around day 30 to day 35 (would be a bit later at lower temps or a day or two sooner if the temperature had a couple of days of warm swings)

But otherwise it's a just a gut feeling that something isn't quite right.. it can be weight loss that's off by too much or just a feeling you get.. neither are scientific by any means.. but sometimes an emu parent just "knows" there's no baby in that egg

I have a feeling cause the egg is not losing the proper weight. Usually when this happens in my incubator it is a dud

Granted I am not going to throw it away cause you never know but if it starts to smell out it goes.

my big pale one is like that.. it SHOULD be losing weight too fast brcause of the shell being pale...instead it's losing it much too slowly. Since I have wiggle in other eggs in the same bator I am not going to try drying things out more (been incubating dry anyway) for one egg that I can bet is a dud

Egg A has been very quiet lately so I don't know if it's still viable or not, we'll just have to wait and see. Egg B saw Day 28 on Friday so I expect it to show movement soon.

Hopefully A is just sleeping

i have 4 wiggling.. with any luck they will keep on moving and don't have any issues

the others haven't started yet.. but of the ones left. most of them were lost in the mail and two are pale eggs.. so I am not holding out much hope for that batch
