Looking for practical worming instructions for our Emu trio. We have a mating pair that are 4-years-old and have never wormed them and their one-year-old (male ?) offspring. The female only laid 5 eggs this year and we had one hatch with deformed legs and then it became unable to walk and we had put to sleep. Have not found a vet here in Central Ohio that has any knowledge on emu care-- Ohio State University Veterinary Hospital refused to see us with baby emu. Someone suggested we worm.

What do we use to worm? Ivermectin? Safeguard? and what dosage for adults and young adults? The adult male is pulling out his back feathers also and neither parent looks as robust as they did when younger. Andy advice appreciated! Thank you!

I used Safeguard recently to worm my emus. I found that the dosage recommended was 15 mg/kg. I actually used the pellet style, and put it in a dish and had no trouble getting them to eat it.

DE does not work as a wormer; it has to be dry to have any kind of effect on parasites, and as you would imagine it's not dry inside a bird, haha.
are you sure? i bought food grade DE at the feed store and it says on the package sprinkling on the feed. the jar is in the basement, i check it in the morning.

got outta bed and checked. that what it says....to kill worm internally....
also just search the internet and there are a bunch of thing supporting de killing internal worms. is it all "natural cure" B.S.??
