The rock border goes all around the coop on 4 sides as my predetor protector. The black soil patches are gardens, the big one for squash and the small for cucumbers. Eventually the big window wall will be covered with Climantis and flowers on 2 other sides.
I'm hoping I can keep te grass growing with my rotating screen on the ground but I'm not sure I can keep up with their appetite for greens
The small yellow door at the bottom is my roost clean out door, works like a charm with little effort, no mess. I got the idea about 35 years ago from a Government Agricultural brochure when I last rased chickens. I was lining it with shavings but now I'm using newsprint. All of it goes into the compost bin.
My goal before I started rasing chickens again was that it had to be easy, fun and my birds had to be happy and comfortable. I think I have achieved my goal.
I have the sand box inside so as not to worry about it getting wet and they use it regularly to bath and for fine grit.
This is their first introduction to a spinach/pasta dish, it took a few minutes to decide whether or not they should eat it. They are cautious for sure.
Here they are checking out my observation seat. I like to sit inside the run where the mosquitoes don't have a chance of survival making it the most comfortable place to observe.
The coop is completely insulated as we're in a cold zone up here in Eastern Ontario Canada. And the coop is surrounded by shade for the summer. It couldn't have turned out any better. We're very pleased, chickens included.
