I agree it is starting to look like a cockerel. However true slo are much slower to mature. Im not sure what the breeder sold you, it does look like an orpington, but i dont think its a slo. My profile picture is a slo. I agree is could be some sort of columbian, but all i have seen is a buff columbian orp before.

A good breeder can and should recognize whether their chicks are pure. If their is doubt, they should wait before selling or at least sell them as possible mixes. I just had two hatches at 2 weeks apart with two different incubators. My first batch of appenzeller spitzhaubens looked great and you can tell they are pure. My second batch looked "off". Within the first week i could tell something wasnt right. My tiny serama rooster had been catching the girls and "going for a ride". Didnt even think he could reach, but a few days later, saw it myself. Will sell these spitzhauben/seramas as mixed breed for much less (or just give them away) and not pure. And will let anyone know. Its the right thing to do. But unfortunately there are some breeders that don't care and will sell you whatever. If something feels off, you can always ask to snap a couple of pictures and then ask to think about it while you do research. If they wont let you, then walk away.

It kills me because he showed me the parents that were in their own coop together. At least that’s what he told me.

You've got a Columbian Orp cockerel there. That pic of the hen is a Splash. Not all colors breed true 100% though. Its very common in English Orpingtons, especially in new bloodlines. My Birchen English Orpingtons still throw a few Columbians every year.

I get very nervous. He is not very friendly, very skiddish. My last rooster was a demon, constantly attacking me and he was a bantam, I’m extra nervous with his size. He is going to be a big boy! It’s so nice to enter the coop without a snow shovel!

Yep. How many times has someone posted, "but he was ALWAYS the friendliest, sweetest one of the bunch....right from hatch"... unfortunately human emotion doesnt work when applied to their behavior.
