Enjoying Nature, or Attracting a Meal? Muscovy Ducks.

They are lovely and once they molt their wet feather will be gone.
Add some dog or cat kibble as a treat for them it will help with feather health once they begin to molt.

It's amazing how big the drakes get. I am glad Wanda is saying breeding season is over she has done good for this year.

I agree.

I do put dog food in the small water buckets and pans, but their new favorite is when I make a puddle on the ground and put some in that . I figure it lets them sift for grit as well since the ground is so dry here right now.

I think the dog food treats has helped improve Wandas health even her carbuncle is a more rich color and doesn't look so dry.

I think Wally has started his molt and I can't wait to see them with healthy feathers.

I still am reading everything I can and trying to do right by them.

I am being reminded of the joy and fear that came with being the caretaker of my first chicken flock.

I have a tendency to be a little over protective ;)
But please disregard the scale if you as my children if a little is accurate

Wanda will not get in the pool without it!
Her feathers get heavy and without "steps" she has a hard time getting out and if I approach to try to help, she panics.

Dh used to run a huge trencher for commercial sites. He would load some of the bigger "debris" up in his truck when he was working out of town.

:clap.Big Rocks. - Better than flowers!

You'll be amazed how gorgeous they will be once molt is over. I had some solid white Muscovy females that would get wet feather every year in August look dirty even though they bathed then come Sept they would begin to molt and their feathers would almost glow they would be so pretty and white. Not sure if feather color has anything to do with it but none of my other Muscovy's have ever had wet feather only these 3 sisters and all 3 solid white. I miss them so much they have died of old age a few years now. They were my first Muscovy females.

Yep mine are all here till they grow old, my oldest drake who passed away in Feb of 2016 was 1 month shy of 12yrs old. They are such precious souls aren't they?
