Here in RI there is a Medical Marijuana License. My mother has one as do several of her friend who have the same disease as she does, Multiple Sclerosis.
To get the licence you need to have written permission from two doctors. Then you get your card and this allows you to legally be able to posess up to one ounce of Marijuana and/or 6 live plants. There is no limit on how many seeds you can posess here.

Several people I know claim it can reduce pain, helps stimulate appetite, eases depression, etc.

Personally I think it should be legal. I agree with what someone previously said about it being a self control or moral issue. Despite what some people think, I highly doubt the country would turn into Jamica overnight!

I have always felt that if Majijuana is illegal, than Tobacco should be too! There certainly seems to be more evidence pointing to Majiuana having health benefits than Ciggarettes (DUH) yet you can pick those up at any corner store

another good question about medicinal marijuana is whether the synthetic version (marinol) should be used or the natural plant version.

the synthetic version is in pill form, so the person will not cause any damage to their lungs. this also allows for closer regulation. however, it is probably much easier to overdose on the pill form

the natural plant version is easier to produce. however, some consider the smoking of it bad. however there are practically zero cases where smoking marijuana caused lung cancer. also, using a vaporizer eliminates the possible harmful toxins. if people could grow their own medicine, it would be very empowering, because then they would not be reliant on a giant pharmaceutical company.

I had to research on the "pro" Side of Marijuana (Cannabis) for a Debate in college 4 years ago...
Until then, I knew nothing other than that it had helped a friend of mine in Houston who was dying of Aids.

There have been MANY independent studies at Several Medical Centers and Universities that have shown how Marijuana not only helps pain and nausea, but has been PROVEN to shrink tumors, an reduce lung inflammation (when vaporized- not smoked).

Even though this information was made available to the Government, Due to the "war on Drugs" and "Drug Czar" the Government kept it under wraps and deemed it "controversial, and Highly suspicious".

Marijuana is not a hallucinogen, and has been proven to NOT be "highly addictive" as the government would lead us to believe.
It was classified along with alcohol until prohibition. When Prohibition on alcohol was lifted in order for the Government to collect taxes and import fees; they re-classified marijuana as an Opiate in order for the prohibition on it to stay in place, without any testing or proof that it was similar to opium in any way. That has never been changed.

Henry Ford once made a car who's fabrics, plastics, and fuel were all made from processed cannabis/hemp.

Medicines, plastics, cooking oils, Fuel-oil, fabrics and Foods can and are made from cannabis/hemp world-wide-- NONE of them contain the cannibinoids (chemicals that make people "high") due to processing, Yet the USA still lists most "hemp Products" as illegal unless tested by a Government facility. None can be imported.

Alcohol contributes to thousands of deaths daily due to Liver failure, and drunk driving etc... yet there has NEVER been a death contributed to SOLEY the use of "Pot"... all listed also include other drugs or alcohol as contributing factors!

So WHy is alcohol legal, and not marijuana-- if one is as deadly if not more so than the other?
The ability to control and tax it!

If people could throw seeds out in their yard and grow a plant that contained whiskey, vodka,gin etc... -- alcohol would be illegal...

If the only way to produce Marijuana was thru manufacturing and specialized licensed equipment, it would be sold like cigarettes-- which kills thousands daily from cancer, emphasema, etc... but is legal and taxed heavily-- go figure.
