Hey everyone! Here's Wendell, my funny, (crossbreed?) EO again. At this point, I'm pretty convinced Wendell is a pullet, based on behavior - especially compared to the salmon fav too I've got wreaking havoc in my brooder. I'd like your opinions because I'm heading back to the breeder on Wednesday, and I need to decide if I'm keeping Wendell (pullet) or returning Wendell (roo). I'm not overly concerned with breed standard. I'm actually pretty curious to see how this almost-lavender Basque feathers out.

So... what do you all think about Wendell? Pullet or cockerel?

How old is wendell?

Behavior can be misleading because EO Basque are very friendly. Big pets actually.

About 4-4 1/2 weeks old. (here's a better pic of the comb)

If you can hold on for several more weeks you should know for sure.

There are nor boy characteristics so far.

Thank you! If nothing is standing out as 100% cockerel, then I'll hang on until we hear a crow. I'm really excited about this breed, and this little bird's personality is growing on me.

Juan , la verdad yo también soy nueva en esto. Obviamente hay mas fotos de gallinas que no vi pero ese gallo (el primero me parece lindo).Si el gallo fe dio este gallo entonces solo s e trata de jugar con los cruces y eliminar bastante, solo quedare con lo mejor.
En cuanto a cruces, puedes hacer padres con hijas y madres con hijos ( es lo que sugieres ahora) si tienes dos padres (machos ) pueden salir dos grupos y si tienes dos madres pueden salir dos grupos mas y entonces luego tienes 4 grupos distintos con estos 4 grupos empiezas el rote en espiral (por casas) y puedes tener por lo menos 20 anos antes de que tengas que incluir nueva sangre.

All white Basque we hatched out this season, not sure yet if pullet or cockerel...what do you think?

The trouble is that the cockerels are so stinking friendly! They out-friendly the girls.

You know, this one isn't what I would call friendly. Nice enough, but tends to stick to the back corner of the brooder until the others have rushed forward. So we'll see!
