Ever ask a total stranger at TSC to buy chicks for you?

Most stores have a 6 chick limit to discourage Easter chick buying. I adopted three last year because a woman bought 3 for her grandson then brought them back to the feed store a month later because he was no longer interested in them. Some people aren't smart enough to realize they are live animals not battery operated toys you can ignor when you lose interest.

isn't this kind of like asking the guy at the convenitent store to buy you beer? All I can envision is some kid standing outside TSC goig "psst, hey mister......"

I think we all have issues...I'm ROTFLMAO thinking about you "scoring" chicks at TSC!!!

Do you really think your husband would notice 3 extra chicks? since you are getting 17 others? Can you say they were packing peanuts? I suggest buying all 6 and then you can either offer the extra 3 to someone else, or just keep them, tell your hubby the store insisted on a minimum and if he is really that unhappy about it you will sell/rehome the 3 extras.

I like the "sneak them past hubby" idea, if I can keep my chatty 6-yr.-old from spilling the beans. If I can't collar someone right away I may resort to this. Of the 17 I've ordered (and hopefully 3 TSC chicks), I'm already only planning to keep 6 once I can figure out which are pullets (these are straight-run bantams). I'm getting a little nervous about how long it may take to sex them accurately, as my space is quite limited! I've heard everything from sexing them at 3 weeks to 3 months, and have visions of ever-growing chickens living in every nook and cranny until we can figure it out and put the rest on Craigslist....

I asked our TSC about the minimum 6 thing and the guy looked at me like I was green. They don't have theirs in yet, but I'm crossing my fingers for a no minimum here or just some darn poorly trained cashiers willing to mess up!

My county has this rule and I've noticed that the Del's Farm supply advertises the minimum in their statewide flyers. The woman at the register told me that lots of people share the 6-chick minimum when meeting in the store. I wouldn't worry about asking someone.

I split a 6-pack of chicks with coffeelady3 after seeing her ad on craigslist last May. It's how we met, and how I got introduced to BYC. We just roped her DBF into the chicken game, with my DBF and hers splitting 6-packs of chicks.

I love telling people that "I split a 6-pack of chicks with a woman I met on craigslist".

just combine the 17 and the 6 and you will not be able to count them without effort.. nobody (DH) won't catch on.. no need to say anything.
do not pay for them with a check..

Lol. I love that. My TSC doesn't have a minimum you can buy, but I went to one that did a while back. If they implemented the 6 minimum rule to discourage Easter impulse buys then that particular store didn't get the memo, because they only offered chicks during the week of Easter.
