Ever feel lonely when you dont have any PM's waiting for you?

I haven't done that, but it might work. McMurray's has leg bands in a variety of sizes. They even have numbered leg bands. http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/leg_bands.html

I
think I'm going to order some for my quail. I want the numbered type. Coturnix quail are impossible to tell apart and that would make keeping track of gender and age a lot easier. I doubt I'll ever band the little buttons. I can't imagine getting them to hold still long enough!

Rozzie-make it simple and give the hens a new color every year-green for 2010-red for 2011 and so forth-this way you just grab all your specific colored ones and ship to your moms-just keep track of what color belongs to what year?

I've never done it but it sounds like a good idea...
Murray McMurray sells them and though I haven't tried them I think MM is pretty truthworthy

Let us know what you do!

Good morning!!

Algo that is a great idea and something I should do, well should have done! I only have to separate batches right now, I didn't introduce in any new ones this year, but I will have to next spring. I have 17 hens and some days only get 5 eggs, but a few weeks ago I was getting 8 or 9. I wish I had all day to babysit them so I knew who was laying! Its great that you have a retirement home for yours

As far as bands I have read of people on here using zip ties, just cut off the excess and make sure and make it plenty big.

Roz that is the best use for a beanie baby yet!! My MIL would slap me, she has hundreds of the things. In fact she gave me the cutest bb chicken. Those babies look like they love their mamma!! So adorable

I can't believe it!! 2 days after we started I was at 140 but I know it was just due to drinking wine instead of eating the day before. I was dehydrated

So now I can attribute it to hard, and I mean hard, work!! I can't wait to see everyone else's progress

Good Morning! I survived the evening and it turned out pretty good. They ate tons of food and Jasper was a hit. I even caught one of the guys in the goose/duck pen at one time! It was funny to watch them with the animals, I didn't realize how many of them were "city" boys! Last night was also Colton's turn to talk on "Dawg Bites" it is a weekly radio program we have where Tom talks to the coaches and players. He did much better than I thought he would. He is always harassing Tom, so I wasn't sure what all would be said. He also isn't much of a talker. I will have it recorded to a CD so I can listen to it again and add to his senior book.

I haven't weighed yet, but will do it here in a little bit.

Tanya--I am very proud of you!!

My cold is almost gone but my sister has a small fever... Though she's feeling better. Tomorrow we're going to the State Fair (

Great job!

As for the beanie baby...well, I have a small one in with the button quail too. You should have SEEN my last guest's reaction. It was one of horror. It might be valuable, after all... Bah. Beanie Babies aren't valuable. I can buy them new, in perfect shape, with the tags, for a buck at the thrift shop. I could get 200 of them for that price if I wanted to any time of day. They have three bins full...

Sounds like a busy day! If you decide you don't have enough housework to do, I'm sure some of us will donate more work to a worthy cause.

We travel to Lexington tonight for football. (about an hour 40 mins, not counting road construction delays) After being home for 4 weeks, I am kinda excited about traveling, except we travel 3 in a row, so I will probably get tired of it by then.
