For Boiling A Fresh Egg...!!

This Summer Will Be Our 3rd Year Raising Chickens, & Peeling A Boiled, Fresh Chicken Egg Perfectly, Is A Challenge.
I Have Cooled With Cold Water After A 20 Min Boil & Peeled..HA! The Shell Just Breaks Into Tiny Pieces! (& To Roll The Hard Boiled Egg To Crack Off The Shell Is Worse.)

Iv'e Let The Eggs Boil for 20 Mins Then Let Them Sit In That Water & Get Close To Room Temp, & Then Peeled, & Although That's A Little Better, I Still Cannot Get; Even A Good Peel!

So What's The Secret To Getting A Good Peel So You're Not Getting All The Little Pieces?

I'll Share A Little Trick... I Learned From My G-Ma, That After You're Done Peeling The Egg, (Or Even Cracking Open A Fresh One) To Go Throw Them On Your Flowers.. Makes Great Fertilizer..

If you not doing deviled eggs, you can cut the egg in half, and use a spoon around the shell and egg. pops right out.. not good for devil eggs though cause you have to cut the egg in the wrong direction..

You are gonna get a lot of different answers and here is mine:

1/4 cup of salt in the boiling water BEFORE you put the eggs in. After they are done they get an instant ice bath.

I found the answer to that problem on here a couple of years ago. I use a push pin to carefully prick a small hole in the shells on the large end, and put them directly in boiling water as they are pricked. Boil for 10 min, turn off heat and cover for 10-15 min., then chill in ice bath and peel. Works like a dream, even on eggs that I have just collected.

I do the salt, and then when I cool them in cold water, I cover and give them a heck of a shaking. The shells get all broken, and the water gets in a bit, makes the shell slip right off. I've done this with eggs laid the same day

I follow a method posted on here a couple years ago and it has never failed me, even with a egg fresh from the nest. Get the water to a rolling boil and lower the eggs in gently. Boil for 14mins, scoop the eggs out and put them in an ice water bath for about 10mins. That's all folks!
