Everything Asil Thread ( show off those Asil )

Ah yes, I recently caught wind of that (which I'm not crazy about). Seems like there is actually a lot of strife between those who say they are Asil and those who say they aren't. What was it, Brazilian, they have in their background? Or was it a bird from unknown ancestry that was gifted to Mr. Saab? I can't remember with all those opposing ideas running through my head!

I might say: Mr. Nasser Saab used an Asil cock over a hen that was a Brazilian throw-back to the Asil side in them (I understand it was Spanish x Asil that = the Brazilian here). Bred back to Asil, Asil, Asil etc. and you get what? Asil, by most standards.

A Brazilian. Is just that. A bird from Brazil. Many seem to figure out what they where bred from. Many years ago. Maybe hundreds of years. It is believed that they are Shamo and Spanish crosses. Some of the cocks weigh about 6 pounds. And are extremely game in most heels. Now if they do have Asil in them. I could not answer that. As I really do not know there genetic and breed make up.
I have many Asil families and will try to post some pics. Thanks.....Nick

We're looking forward to seeing your Asils! Yes, Brazilians are generally accepted as SpanishxShamo, that was probably the original cross that started everything. But now many have, or were created with, primarily Asil blood in the place of the Shamo. Some Brazilians also have Thai blood in there.

NJNick is correct on the Brazilians or it is not a Brazilian it is just a cross. Someone selling or trading such a cross as a Brazilian will lie to you about other things as well.

Birds that we do not have in the States we sometimes 'make' if we have the original 'parts.' However, when done we usually say so in some way.

If we have a breed then to 'make' it again is not the way to go. For example, with the Brazilian, we do not know for certain what all went into its creation and at what percentages. We do know some look more Shamo than others.

I agree that grading done properly leads you to the breed in question. However, that was not what Nasser was trying to do. I think you'd find he also didn't breed back as you think. Nothing wrong with doing it as he did because an 'Asil' was not his goal.

Your right, I know Nasser never really calls them Asil. It was my understanding that Mr. Saab was breeding more for Asil, so when I have to call them something, it'd be Asil. Please PM me with the details, Saladin, I was told/gathered differently, so find that very interesting/confusing. I'd really appreciate it.
