Ah yes, I recently caught wind of that (which I'm not crazy about). Seems like there is actually a lot of strife between those who say they are Asil and those who say they aren't. What was it, Brazilian, they have in their background? Or was it a bird from unknown ancestry that was gifted to Mr. Saab? I can't remember with all those opposing ideas running through my head!
I agree that grading done properly leads you to the breed in question. However, that was not what Nasser was trying to do. I think you'd find he also didn't breed back as you think. Nothing wrong with doing it as he did because an 'Asil' was not his goal.I might say: Mr. Nasser Saab used an Asil cock over a hen that was a Brazilian throw-back to the Asil side in them (I understand it was Spanish x Asil that = the Brazilian here). Bred back to Asil, Asil, Asil etc. and you get what? Asil, by most standards.
