Excuses for Hubby......

I cured myself of the rule...we must build the house before we get the chicks.

I had him pick up feed and he walked by the ducks. He brought home two, but we have no duck house. And the next week I had him grab more feed since I wasn't planning on feeding little piggy ducks. So he brought home two more ducks. I'm sure I will never hear a word about my cheeps because he has the fun part of his quacks and I do all the dirty clean up work for him. Oh, and now I'm building a duck pen.

About 7 years ago, we were living in an apartment, and we were sitting outside enjoying the fresh air. A lady came by with a tiny kitten, about 6 weeks old, and asked if we knew who's kitten it was. DH (BF at the time) said, "Well, there's lots of strays around here, it might be one of them." She put the kitten on the sidewalk and walked off!!

I picked it up, brought it inside. Now, mind you, DH had just recently moved out of his parents house, and just shortly before that his cat died, one that he was very very attached to!

DH said there's no way we're keeping it, but we can take it in for the night and take it to the shelter in the morning. I swore up and down there wasn't a way to drop it off at night, that's why he agreed to the over night thing, lol. Even though there's cages outside the shelter for just that purpose...

The next day was Sunday. Of course, shelters aren't open on Sundays! Cat gets to stay one more night.

The next day was Monday. That's the day the shelter is acutally closed. Oops...

Then Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, I was at work, so couldn't take the kitten - I made sure I worked the hours the shelter was open!

Friday, while DH was at work, his brother mentioned the kitten was a pretty good kitten. I told DH what he said, and DH said, "Fine. We'll keep her. Brat."

We've had her for almost 7 years now, and she's now HIS cat!!

She absolutely hates me most of the time, and is attached to him at the him!

Little did he know what trouble he got himself into though - that was my first rescue and since then I've rescued about 75 cats and roughly 20 dogs... Poor guy puts up with a lot!

As for the chickens, I've been shocked by him. He has had a no bird rule - he hates birds with a passion (says they're dirty and noisy...). I traded him growing some herbs in *my* garden for 2 chickens (don't know why he said yes, he'd have been able to use my garden space anyways!). Then, I was given a 3rd, and he said ok. About 3 weeks ago I saw some at the feed store and mentioned that these were really good layers and would lay big eggs, unlike my bantams, and he said I could get 3. We started planning a bigger coop. I mentioned that I would like to breed Seramas and try hatching eggs, and he went out that evening to start looking at pieces to build me an incubator! And then, I saw an add for Silkie babies - and he said I could get them (there were only 3) since I was finding a home for my Roo! On the way home with the silkies, I drove, and about every 10 seconds he would open their box and "make sure they were still ok"... I went to work the other night and his large container of yogurt was gone. I asked if he ate it all, and he said no, he gave some to the chickens because he thought they might like it! Yeah, he hates them all right...

I guess I'm lucky? Although, I did learn quickly that sneaking things in doesn't always work. I have a yarn, um, habit, for my knitting, and have just as many boxes of that as he does computer stuff. And yet, he always seemed to notice when something new came in...

That's a great story

I agree. I take care of the chickens. I arrange for coops and feed from my budget (or sell jewelry from my first husband). Why do I need Mr. Hallerlake's permission?
