Excuses for Hubby......

Quote:
Same boat here, he has spent tons on his hunting gear and has gotten zero deer, someone has to keep this family fed! If this family must eat chickens and eggs instead of some good deer tenderloin, so be it! (I do wish he'd get a deer, tenderloin with biscuits and venison gravy would really hit the spot right about now.)

he needs to buy a tractor... last thanksgiving, hubby drove the tractor down to the road to pick up our trash cans (half mile driveway). told him when he left, make sure you take the gun. he laughed at me. came back up with the cans, got the gun and drove back down (cans rattling all the while) and popped a doe down by the old horse pen. said first time he went by, the herd (8 or 9) ran off into the woods about 20 feet and just stood there watching him go by. on the way back up, they just watched him go by again. on the 3rd pass, he stopped the tractor, used the hood to steady the rifle, and BAM! the other does all just ran about 20 feet further and watched as he field dressed her and put her in the front end loader to bring back to the house. 8)

I'm looking at an auction right now and contemplating... he hasn't complained about chicks yet. just the free ranged ones hanging out by the door under the deck. "there's poop every *bleep*ing where!" so now i feed them further away from the house. LOL

as for building coops etc, that's on me to do. he's said already that whatever i want, it's up to me to make. so tomorrow i go buy some more wood for the big coop i need. 8)

I'm watching an auction too. And thinking about buying more wood tmw for something bigger and better. We're twins, except my husband didn't shoot a deer today. (Not sure he'd even know how to drive a tractor.)

My husband just said tonight.. (and I quote) "Why don't you hold off on hatching more chickens til Spring."

YOU HEARD IT HERE FOLKS!

If only I got it in writing!

I bugged my DH for 17 years for chickens...this past spring he finally agreed to 6 chicks if I built my own coop...I built a 8x8 coop( that I found out later on here is a "tractor" when I finally found this site) I am now up to 26...plus 8 I hatched last weekend(my first EVER!!)...plus 3 eggs piping today(still waiting on zip)...4 to go in lockdown next friday...6 the next friday(I like to hatch on weekends so I"m home to watch)...and I set 4 for me and 12 for mom tonight!!! LOL

I just showed him the choc project orph auction that ended at $426!! He says...wow...and we cant find your Self blue oegb anywhere...wonder what they are worth...you better set ALL those eggs!! I am a D'uccle nut myself!

And he has built 4 coops(not tractors) and is in planning for a 24x36 coop to be done by Feb!!

People laugh at my name, but they really ARE his chickens! I'm the voice of reason in the family but I also handle the logistics of the breeding/hatching/culling. I lost count of how many we hatched this year but when the flock reached close to 50 of all ages he decided we had enough for the time being. Then i still left 2 broodies hatch although I decided what eggs they had.
DH just feeds them and enjoys them. They are his retirement project to keep him out of more serious trouble. He is a city boy who gets a kick out having chickens in the country. After 4 years he still can't tell the boys from the girls until the boys crow but he's learned Excel to track his egg production, and religiously locks them in at night. They'reHISchickens!
Me? When I retire, I'm getting a cow:)

KI4Got! We were watching the same auction. LOL! Here's the proof!

Ladies, (and random gentlemen),

I must think of an excuse by next Tuesday when my shipment will arrive. I tried to stay out of auction, but alas, I failed. I am but a mere human. Addicted to poultry. What else is there to do but buy more.

Luckily I am a stay-at-home mom and will be here when Mr. Postman shows up. Maybe if I slip the eggs in quietly and dispose of the box... he will not notice. The second incubator might give it away, but perhaps I could say the old one broke. And when he says, "Then why is it still plugged in with eggs in it?" I could reply with, "Because then it started working again.... it was crazy".

Maybe this will work... but I'm not sure.

Thoughts?

Is this a serious question now?

Because when my husband asks why I got more chickens and/or eggs, I tell him really why, such as they're a breed I wanted.

I use my excuses when I'm just trying to make him laugh.

If still not serious, well there's

"the old incubator was too crowded and I didn't want them to start pecking each other."
