Experiences with McMurray hatchery?

We've ordered twice from MM. 1st was for ducklings in August 2008. They all arrived healthy including the extra they sent. A drake of course when I ordered all girls. Now we've hatched out quite a few ducklings from those. This past spring 2009 we ordered chicks. It so happened that is was a long weekend and we had 2 DOA and lost quite a few more over the next 2 days. They replaced all the ones we had ordered that died and sent 13 red star roos as packing peanuts the next week. They all arrived healthy. We had ordered all pullets and we ended up keeping 1 of the roos. All in all I think as a hatchery McMurray does a great job.

I ordered my first set of chickens from MM. I love them! I ordered 25 chicks and ended up with 31! And surprisingly a lot of them were hens. All the chicks arrived happy and healthy. Didn't lose a single one til a couple got bit by a black widow spider and the we lost a few to a puppy breaking in the chicken yard. We butchered a few, and sold a couple at the local flea market. Got good prices for them too. Big healthy birds. My mother is friends with the head poultry professor here at UGA and he said they order all of their chicks from MM. I wouldn't worry about your chicks. They have really great customer service, so if you have any problems they will help you out. One of the free chicks I got was a turken hen. When I opened the box I though the chick was sick. I had never heard of much less seen a turken, so I thought there was something really wrong with it. I called them up and asked what was wrong with the chick. It was funny, the lady I talked to was really nice and we both got to giggling about it. BUt any way, I wouldn't worry yourself. Your chicks will more than likely be fine.

I have gotten three orders from them and rehomed 15 from a orchard that only wanted the chicks for the kids (They only order from McMurray and have had no problems). They have all been beautiful birds and the most I have lost is 2-4 out of 25 ordered each time, which I think is acceptable (I think the year I lost 4 we had a predator (hawk)). My meat birds are from Hoovers and I ordered from Ideal last year after a hawk took out the McMurray chicks I had ordered earlier in the spring (McMurray was sold out of the varieties I wanted and Ideal wasn't). Enjoy your fuzz butts.

I have ordered Cornish X from MM before and we were very happy with them. This last batch I ordered from Ideal. I don't know why, but these meat birds I got from Ideal are not gaining like the ones I got from MM. The service I got from Ideal was great and the chicks were healthy and active. They just aren't growing like I think they should. Not even close. The next batch I order will be from MM.

I ordered last year and it was wonderful! I ordered 32 recieved 38. 6 died within 3 days and they refunded the cost of the 6! They were great!

so I have 25 again but those all look good

I ordered them for the first time last year no problem was very happy, planning my order with them for this year. I like that they are not that far away from me and I can pick them up a day early because the Salina post office (1 1/2hrs away)calls when they arrive there so it takes about 1 day for them to arrive instead of 2

I just picked up mine from the PO and

A little info on Murray McMurray. I received my chick a week ago (27 Jan 13). I ordered 47 total chicks of various breeds. I even went as far as to call my main post office hub and ask them to call me and I would pick them up whenever they got there. I received the call at 11:00pm on a Sunday. I drove the 2 hours round trip to get them faster to reduce the stress....if I had waited to get them from my local post office...who knows how many more would have died. 2 of the chicks were DOA in the box when I opened it. Later that day 3 more died. And the next day 3 more died. 1 day after that I only lost 1. Also, I ordered 4 Golden laced Wyandotte's...they didn't ship them to me. Their was a sticker on the inside of the box that said they said they ran out. Now keep in mind I ordered these chicks 3 months in advance. So there's no excuse for not sending them.

OK, now I have 3 chicks with crossed beaks and 1 with an eye problem. I will probably cull them tomorrow.

I would suggest trying to find a local hatchery around you and buy them from there. I am not happy at all with McMurray. Although their people were very nice on the phone each time I called...I believe their chicks are sub-standard. Be prepared to lose a 1/4 of them due to death or sub standard breeding.

I'm just sayin....lol

I have ordered meat chicks from Murray McMurray. My chicks were all lively and healthy and I didn't lose any. This year if I order chicks I will get them from Cackle because they are not far from where I live.
