From what I've read malpositioning is extremely common in shipped eggs, and I've hatched other malpositioned chicks from the same egg seller, so it's possibly something specific to their shipping method. They do seem to have a higher rate of this than anyone else I've gotten eggs from.
I dry incubate, to answer your humidity question. I try to hold at 30-35 percent humidity then bump it up. However, I will admit that we've been having rain storms pass through, and I can't actually REMOVE humidity, so it's possible that the humidity fluctuated and that influenced the hatch.
Again, since I've seen this in the highest instances with this particular breeder/seller it's hard to chalk it up to any particular variable.
Have you though about contacting the breeder? Sometimes, if they are able, they will ship more at a discounted rate or at least offer something in return.
