*Eyes Of The Phoenix* A Wild Chicken RP

Name: Fern

Apperance: Warm brown partridge-colored hen with a black tail, amber hackles, a rose comb, and muffs. Graceful and majestic, with glossy, soft feathers. A natural rooster magnet.

Story: Fern was born in Dawnflock and has lived there her whole life. She's about a year and a half old. She's already raised a clutch of eggs, which resulted in three daughters just as gorgeous as her. All the roosters love her. She's kind and motherly. Right now, she's just getting ready to mother another batch of chicks. Good friends with Eerie.

Jay numbly looked towards the direction the voice came from. It was Eerie. Her wide frightened, but intent eyes locked with hers. "I-" Her words stumbled and she didn't know how to respond to Eerie's question. Toad extended a wing to comfort Jay, but she shook it off. "It's all my fault!" She wailed, with grief and anger. I should have been watching, she thought with such fierceness that she just wanted to shrivel up and die. "The last thing she probably thought was that we should have been watching, I should have been watching!" She spat out the last few words in a growl. Jay stared desperately at the spot where Doe was snatched, as if hoping she would magically appear. She then looked at the ground, and whispered in a tiny voice, "I should have stopped it, I shouldn't be the cause of this, now because of me, a beautiful young pullet, had to see that not everything in life can go your way."
Eerie nodded. “I don’t think it was your fault, Jay. Nobody can be on top of everything 100% of the time.’’

“Sparrow is grieving right now. She will be angry and heartbroken. Perhaps it’s best to leave her be right now.” She said sadly

Toad nodded in agreement, he was shocked to hear such negativity from Jay. But she's been through a lot, she thought. The way her mom treated her probably gave her some ptsd. "Your probably right, Eerie." He sighed sadly. He looked at Jay and for a second they locked eyes, but her pain was so strong, that he had to look away. Than she whispered, "She wouldn't be in such pain, if i stopped it." She looked back towards Sparrow's burrow, she could hear the whimpering of Doe's grieving siblings. Toad felt sudden anger, "Stop thinking like that!" He snapped. But instantly regretted it when he saw Jay flinch.

Eerie flinched too. But Toad was right. Jay couldn’t keep beating herself up like that.
“Jay,” she said softly. “I know you’re grieving right now. But the flock needs you to be strong. You are a strong bird. Don’t let this break you. We can’t lose two flock mates in one day.”

Jay looked up at Eerie, she knew she was right, but the shame and guilt washed over her and she just wanted to fall in a bottomless pit. "She shouldn't have died, she should be in the Hatchery right now, snuggling with her siblings, not knowing things could go so wrong." She looked back at the ground, there were scratch marks there, she guessed they were from her, though she didn't remember putting them there. "You can't change the past." Toad whispered suddenly. He sounded much wiser and older then the usual cocky cockerel. Jay glanced at him, and saw his sympathetic and sad eyes on her.

Eerie touched her beak to Jay’s head. “Be strong.” She said quietly. “It’s how we survive.” She shuddered lightly, feeling phantom sensations of rough human hands crushing her.
“It’s how we survive no matter what happens.”

Toad watched the hens in silence, until Eerie stepped away. Her beautiful gray/silver feathers rustling in the breeze. Her iced color eyes locking with his. He saw sadness in those light depths, but also strong determination.

Fern watched sadly from a distance as Toad and Eerie comforted Jay. She knew it wasn’t Jay’a fault, but she understood Sparrow’s rage. The need to blame anything and everything. As a mother, you wanted to protect your children. And when you couldn’t, you needed to find someone to hold responsible. It was instinct. But Sparrow would come around eventually.

Eerie spotted Fern watching from the edge of the clearing. She brushed one of her wings lightly on Jay’s and then walked over to Fern.
