We don’t have one we buy it of the internetHope your chickens will be fine also go to the local feed store and ask them for help.
Looks like you are dealing with a respiratory disease. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044My chickens eyes have crusted over and we’ve had 2 of our usual eggs today!!
Some chickens have 2 eyes crusted some only have one and some have none but I need to know what’s wrong.
My dad keeps saying it’s dust but that dosent justify the egg drop so I feel like there’s something more.
We have cleaned most of there eyes with just water and a cloth and appear to be normal just a bit foamy.
I will attach pictures but I just need to know what’s wrong so I can research and what I can do to help!
The black on the naked neck is just her colouring as she’s not a true one.Greetings chicksonline,
I am looking at the pictures you submitted. Can you tell me what the black substance is on three of the chickens? The naked neck has it on part of her neck, the polish also around the eye, and the black hen has some that appears to be starting between the beak and the eye.
This almost looks fungal to me.
Can you tell me more, by answering these questions?
Next, what medicines do you have available to treat the chickens?
- Are the chickens, sneezing, coughing, wheezing, have labored breathing?
- Is there any discharge coming from the nostrils? They look dry
- Are the chickens, eating and drinking normally?
- Is the poop normal, or diarrhea?
As Wyorp Rock suggested, you should separate those affected chickens.
This is not dust! Till we can figure out what this is, you should start providing good supportive care. For these chickens that will start with separating them, someplace safe, with food and water.
Next, fill a bottle with some warm saline solution. Get a clean wash cloth for each of the hens. Don't use one cloth for them all.
Restrain the hen by wrapping it well in a towel.
Then, moisten the cloth and gently pat the eyes, and clean them. You'll have to do this everyday, maybe twice a day. These warm compresses will be soothing and cleansing for the birds eyes.
Open the chicken's eye and apply the Terramycin eye ointment (or Neosporin without pain reliever in it), on the lower lid of the chickens eye, after it is clean. When the chicken blinks the ointment will spread over the eyeball. Careful not to poke the eye.
Then let me know what the black substance is on the skin. If this is fungal, antibiotics won't help.
I hope this is helpful.
God Bless![]()
