Fabric organization help

ROY G BIV is how I organize all my glass. It's only 1/2 an acre or so, which helps.........then there are the bins for OOAK, special textures, etc., etc., etc., .........

Clear, translucent, transparent, opaque, semi-opague, flashed, fusing compatible ........

Terri....Where on earth did you get the fabric that in on the quilting frame?!?! I love it.

If I was anymore organized than you already are..I would never find a thing!!!! And all that wasted quilting time..oh my...but then..

most of my fabric is in totes stacked ceiling high...for 5-8 years now..looking for something often inspires another project..I tell myself this everytime I need the tote on bottom!!!..

Zoo, you did say that only a third of your fabric was un-packed.......

I'm organized and all my material has to be visible....
I have it sorted by color (texture or solid) and period (ie. The 30s/40s repros, Civil War). I also sort out juvenile, stripe, dots, stars, Chrstmas, farm/fowl/animal

Each color is folded to fit in an open faced box and boxes are stacked on each other so that the fabrics are visible...think stackable crates.

I would post a couple of pictures of the sewing room, but you might need THREE valiums!

In one of previous homes I was not able to have fabric out and had to keep in boxes. So I cut a small square from each piece, pasted to a piece of cardboard (easier to handle) then got the plastic sheets for binders that hold business cards. Divided the binder with tabs for each box number, added the square of material. That way when I needed something I just pulled the binder knew what box to look in and if I used the material I removed the square. Worked well for me. My new house - well we won't even go there I have no sewing room and I'm going crazy without one.
