Face is swollen, oozing, and smelly. Rampant infection? *pg 2 new pics

I worked for a vet for years. And while that doesn't make me any kind of expert I can tell you that small punctures from a claw or sharp toothed animal (cat or coon) can easily get infected that bad. It's because the tooth or claw is so sharp that it pierces deep but then the holes "self-seals" for lack of a better word. So the infection takes hold and it gets pretty ugly and abcessed before it's all over with. I would think with paper thin chicken skin it's entirely possible that it's an abcess and not a contagious disease. And keeping it opened and clean is best.
I'm new to chickens so I'm on my way to look up coryza. But I just wanted to throw in my 1/2 a cent.

Thank you very much. Come back and tell me what you thinknof the coryza though. This is beyond and abcess. One eye swollen shut then the other a day later? White fluid comin out of eye? Nasal discharge? I don't know

So how would there not be a 100% chance that my whole flock is infected? They have all had contact with eachother. They are all in the same coop. New guy has been here a week. We got him and another pullet at the same time. She was killed her first day here. Maybe Petey caught it from her but the other baby didn't? I don't know. I will be Watching my
Flock for symptoms. I feel like I have doomed my little girl that's in with him. Now she will have it, right? And if he pulls through then he becomes a carrier? So he would have to be culled anyway? Oh god.

Sorry, wish I had waited til tomorrow to open that can of worms. But I think it's like a cold, sometimes you catch it and sometimes you don't . I always recommend quarantine for a month for new flock members. The symptoms do seem to fit, but maybe I am wrong. If Petey has it, he will be a carrier but could be placed in a home with birds that have already been exposed. Keep an eye on the rest of your flock, and wash real well after handling him. Maybe it is just a coon bite. I am pulling for you guys.

I'm just going to pray right now that the attack left him with an incredible bad sinus infection.... Specially with that puncture wound above his eye.

Okay so chances are if they do not have te symptoms in the next week or so that they did not contract the illness? What about their coop?

Not sure on time of exposure to time of symptoms. However, do you sell/show/etc? Or do you just have a backyard flock? You dont necessarily have to cull a flock for coryza...just close it and dont sell any.

I am no expert on the subject, just got chickens the last two years. I would say you couldn't go wrong by cleaning out your coop and spraying a 10% bleach solution inside once the birds are out. Even if he does not have it, your coop will be clean.

What can I do now for my flock to prevent any that don't have it yet from contracting it? Also does this mean if I ever get more chickens they will have the possibility of getting this and dying? I only have a backyard flock. I don't show. I'm afraid my BYC friends will not want to hang out with me anymore for fear of their chickens contracting!

if I take him to the vet would they be able to tell me for sure if he has it?
