Face is swollen, oozing, and smelly. Rampant infection? *pg 2 new pics

I think this is from the 'coon attack - but I am no expert.

If it is coryza - and came from the "new" pullet - then with all the stress that Petey's last showgirl has gone thru, she should be having trouble now also. At least I would *think*. Again, I have not had to deal with this type of thing.

I might try some warm moist compresses against his face/eye area, it might help to draw out some junk also.

Can you find the punture by his head/nostril again - if so, make sure it is open - you might have to tear a bit of skin or clip a bit - keep it open to help it drain.

OK, I am gonna throw my 2 cents in as I feel the root problem is not being addressed properly. Petey has an infection BIG TIME! He needs antibiotics injections please. If you can get TYLAN 50 use that 4 days if no change go to 7 days max. .1.5ml once a day [I use insulin syringes] But please use INJECTABLE meds. For the eyes ONLY use meds SPECIFICALLY for they eyes please. Getting that bite above the eye can get infection in the sinuses. Be aggressive with the antibiotics please.

Horse feathers is right about warm compresses and finding that puncture and keeping it open for pus to drain...puncture wounds are worst. I feel comfortable saying that it is NOT coryza--its just a nasty infection.

Thank you genny. What I THINK is a puncture wound above his eye is very small and is not draining anything. In fact it doesn't look bad at all.
Now it's not just his eyes that are swollen but also a lump above his beak in front of his eye. From what I gather coryza does not get THIS bad...

I am going to the feed store and they have injectable penicillin. Will this work as well? Also I do plan on getting something for those poor eyes. I pulled out a HUGE large chunk of white from his "good" eye. It seems his bad eye has more swelling but his good eye has more of the white chunks coming out of it. The bad eyes drainage is mostly liquid

Yup, that would be a good start...you can give petey a larger dose for the first one to help jump start the program...keep us posted..I am rooting for him......LOL

i agree completely. Only eye ointment in the eyes, and he needs antibiotics. i commend you for being so caring and treating him yourself. But honestly, if there was any way to get him into a vet who specializes in chickens, that would be his best chance. Sounds like he has a lot going on and needs an expert. And after looking at the latest pictures, he needs pain medication, metacam preferably. The poor guy looks miserable, and some pain relief would go a long way towards reducing his stress so his body can focus on healing.

I know you are not supposed to use Neosporin in or near the eyes, but I had a situation very recently and one of my girls eyes was swollen shut and red raw... the other "ladies" were pecking relentlessly at it as well.... I grabbed her... leaned the eye with warm water until it was clear of crud, then put a smear of neosporin on it... She was good to go back in the coop within 4 hours. Eye looks like new. She is not blind. My 2 cents in a gotta do something situation.........

I agree 100%. I just got off the phone with the vet who is te only one in town that does birds and even then doesn't really do chickens. She told me there is absolutely no way she could see me until Monday possibly Tuesday. Even then she said all she could do is prescribe antibiotics for him which I can go get at the feed store. Other then that she was hinting me to have him put down. While I feel his face hurts a lot, I think if this infection gets under control he will make it.
