Face is swollen, oozing, and smelly. Rampant infection? *pg 2 new pics

Aubrey, you can also email the Vet at I think it's the Tri-State Vet, they have a website that sells all kinds of poultry supplies and they have a vet that you can talk to. You could email him pics and a description and he will tell you exactly what to do for him.

I know you are not supposed to use Neosporin in or near the eyes, but I had a situation very recently and one of my girls eyes was swollen shut and red raw... the other "ladies" were pecking relentlessly at it as well.... I grabbed her... leaned the eye with warm water until it was clear of crud, then put a smear of neosporin on it... She was good to go back in the coop within 4 hours. Eye looks like new. She is not blind. My 2 cents in a gotta do something situation.........

NO NO NO on the contact lense cleaner...would you put it in your eyes??? Saline solution yes but that would be all. You can use human or dog/cat medicine for the eyes too.

Thanks for that.

I bought the penicillin and a syringe and needle. Does anyone have any advice on giving my first shot?

Also got the Terramycin eye ointment.

From what I have read, most of the members inject into the breast muscle. Some antibiotics can go under the skin, but I'm not sure if penicillin is one of those.

Petey has been given his shot for the day and had te ointment put in his eye. He drank a TON of water and took all of his aspirin. I am hoping he will be on the mend now

Hey guys I have one more question for you. I gave him the shot three hours ago and since about the last two he has been shakin his head almost constantly. Is this a good or bad sign?

Hoping it means that his infection has already started to drain out, but I don't know anything about anything.

Sometimes when things/infections begin to heal, they can itch like crazy. Maybe he's itchy? Could apply a thin layer of hydrocortisone cream just in case. Seems he's feeling like something is on his face somewhere and he's trying to shake it off.
