Facts to convince hubby that processing ou own chickens is a good idea

I highly agree!

I say process one while he isn't around. Serve it for dinner, then let him know. Just make sure it isn't one of his favorites. It's just the thought in his head, once he gets by that (just like everyone) he will be more ok with it... then eventually he will get totally ok with it.

Just a idea. It is what I would do.

And I don't mean lie. (after reading above me) I mean just go about the day like it was any other, then let him come home to a chicken dinner. You didn't promise him you wouldn't, did you?

#1 stop making store bought meat, say that you are disturbed by the inhumane practices carried out by the industry
#2 make store bought chicken and while he's eating it casualy mention the 9% of the body weight that is composed of fecal matter due to unsanitary chlorine baths and chill tanks

Body weight composed of 9% fecal matter ???

Sorry, that's inaccurate. 9% (or more) of the body weight is often added water/salt water. Depending on what company it comes from, it may also contain a mixture they refer to as "broth" that has a bunch of chemical crap in it, such as MSG and hydrolyzed protein, both very bad for you. Not all companies do that, however.

The water in the chilling tanks may or may not be contaminated with fecal matter, and the amount of chlorine they soak in is scary. The chicken itself does not contain 9% fecal matter.

That said, you can't beat the taste of home-raised meat, and if you process it yourself, you know without a doubt how the bird was handled, and you know there's not a lot of unwanted stuff added. The satisfaction of providing for yourself and family, without the help of a factory farm, is very nice, too.

Well my husband, years ago had decided against eating our chickens and wanted me to start getting store boughts. He was not liking to kill them and I wasn't really good at it. He also insisted that it tasted funny.
Well the roosters started eating the eggs and he decided it was because of jealousy......each thought the other had fertilized that egg so they ate it. He had a danish brown leghorn and my roo was a RIR and neither of us thought much about the other ones roo. So he said one of them had to die. So I said, "Fine. Kill your rooster." He didn't think much on that.
One day he was home from work on his lunch break and started playing with his 20 gauge and without even telling me what he was going to do, he shot right out the front door......scared the *$@# out of me. I go look and my RIR was jumping everywhere and my clay flower pot was shattered. I started screaming,"You killed my rooster!" He insisted one of them had to go.....I told him he should have killed his stupid rooster. He said,"Well I killed it. Now get rid of it. I'll be home this afternoon." And off he went. Well my rooster had jumped and died under my house. So I grabbed him and plucked him, carefully putting all his feathers in a paper bag and talking to my invisible husband, saying,"You killed my rooster, but you gonna eat him." and I served it fried, having marinated it in oriental seasonings for 4 days.
Then his stupid rooster came up the steps of the house.......it was a warm day and the house was opened....and I said to the rooster,"I can't stand you and I'll tell you something else. I wish it was you he was eating instead of my rooster." He had already eaten 4 pieces. I am not so revengeful anymore, but at the time it was priceless.

Hey Rhoda, if that bird was tender, can I have your marinade recipe, PLEEEEEAAASSSEEE?

Funny post BTW! I think I might've served him BOTH roosters.

I'm lucky, my DH wouldn't do that to me, and I'm glad he's supportive of my poultry projects. He gets a little distraught over costs, sometimes, but then the egg production goes up, the hens earn enough in egg money to be self supporting, and he really loves the taste of the home-grown birds.

Well it was an older bird, so I knew it needed to be soaked a few days. I bought an oriental marinade mix and put it in the back of the refrigerator.....in hiding. I don't remember if I had started using beer to soak chicken meat yet or not. I do now sometimes; if I can keep it in the house that is.
Funny to think on it, because I cooked roasted araucana with thyme, sage, rosemary, garlic and the sauce was with lots of onions, today and he knew. He even asked what kind of chicken and commented that it was gamier than other chickens. So I guess he got over his 'thing' with not wanting me to kill my own chickens.
