Fair Wrning For Bird Shippers

pips&peeps :

I don't believe this. Did they show you the regulation in print? If it's not in print it's not real.

There is a size limit on boxes, but usually the rate increases due to the number of inches the box takes up. But telling you that you cannot tape two boxes together is BS!

BS OR NOT THEY WERENT GOIN TAPED TOGATHER SO I HAD NO CHOICE... I AM FAMILIAR WITH THE PREVIOUS EXISTING REGS ON LIVE BIRDS AND YOU WERE ABLE TO TAPE UP TO 4 SINGLE STALL HORIZON BOXES TOGATHER AND REMAIN WITHIN SIZE LIMITS... THIS IS ALLEGEDLY NOT IN RELATION TO SIZE LIMITS BUT SUPPOSEDLY TO ELIMINATE BOXES GETTING SEPERATED IN TRANSIT AND LOST (APPARENTLY IT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM?

) IN TYPICAL GOVT KNEE JERK REACTION RATHER THAN MAKING US ADDRESS EACH AND EVERY BOX IN THE PARCEL THEY WILL MAKE US MAIL EACH BOX SEPERATELY AND IN TURN SCREW US FOR MORE $$$.... AINT CAPITOLISM GRAND?

IF THE MAN SAYS NO IT DOESNT MATTER IF HE HAS IT IN PRINT. YOU PRETTY MUCH HAVE A FEW CHOICES AT THAT POINT... A. CUT THEM APART AND PONY UP THE MONEY, B. TRY TO CART THEM TO ANOTHER PO AND "GET BY WITH IT", OR C. DONT SHIP THEM-- SINCE I WAS ON MY WAY TO START A BRAND NEW JOB (1ST DAY) AND REALLY PREFERRED TO NOT BE LATE ON DAY #1 (JUST KINDA LOOKS BAD AS I WAS TAUGHT..) I TOOK OPTION A, ONCE DONE WITH WORK I CAME BACK HERE TO SHOUT OUT A WARNING TO THE REST OF Y'ALL.

OH AND YES THERE IS A SIZE AND A WEIGHT LIMIT ON BOXES.. CHECK YOUR REGS

I suggest you contact your city postal inspector to get to the bottom of this. I'm going to call my post office in the morning.

And, I did say there was a size limit on the boxes. However, there is a size limit for regular price and then you go up in price for bigger parcels until you get too large.

Just crusing BYC when I found this thread and kinda felt the need to add my 2 cents-

I have alot of family that works for the USPO and I wanted to share a tiny bit of info. The reason rates are going so high is NOT greed. The PO system is nearly bankrupt at this point due in LARGE part to- ONLINE BANKING AND BILL PAYING. Only a small part of their problem is the competion from other shippers.

The PO was mainly funded by us recieving bills and sending the payment back by US postal service. For a very long time we communicated by (*gasp*) Writing letters to people we wanted to talk to, but couldnt afford to call (and so buying stamps, etc). Most companies dont even use the USPO to send advertisments anymore, they just use email and ad banners. Heck , even newspapers are free in most places online nowadays.

If your main source of income simply dissapeared, with absolutley NO way to recover it- what would you do? They cant just shut down- the nation would face a huge downturn, they cant force anyone to use their services, so what can they do? Shut a few offices, fire some employees, and maybe stop service an extra day of the week, thats about it, unless they, OH yeah- raise some rates in order to keep some lights on, keep employees, and yes, make very a slight profit (every business is entilted to make SOME profit, arent they?)

So really, if you want to blame ANYONE or ANYTHING for the huge rise in costs at the PO, blame the INTERNET. Its really NOT corporate greed, its corporate survival at its most desperate level- the PO is sinking fast and its own top brass predict it completely shutting down within the next 15 years.

The thing I hate about it is I dont WANT to use auto-bill pay, I HATE the idea of ANYONE having the right to go into MY personall account and take money out, regardless of weather they have permission or not- those people make mistakes too, and I'll be darned if theyre gonna make a 'mistake' with MY money.

My 2 cents worth is I really dont care about the reason but I do care about the costs and I just recieved birds that I could have gottens eggs and raised them myself all costs included and still wouldnt have spent what shipping was
I think its completely wrong to stiff a poor economy because you can

Not caring about the 'why' is like not caring that your car is out of gas and still expecting it to run. They are not shutting down offices and considering cutting days of delivery just to stiff a poor economy. The PO faces a reality of simply not having the income it needs to continue the services they have provided in the past, plain and simple. Whether you believe that or not, is up to you, but the info is out there if you are willing to look for it. I'm not saying they arent making a single dime (every business deserves to make money at some point, but the PO is just not making the $ it used to, despite the rate hikes), and yes, it would be nice to see rates go back down, but I dont see that happening. I dont like paying higher rates, but I do it, because, it makes me feel like I am part of the solution to helping keep my local PO in business.

Just really try to imagine life without the PO whatsoever- really, NO mail anymore, no options, being at the mercy of the other shipping companies that will most certainly take advantage of the situation. I could be wrong on this one, but doesnt one of the other major shipping companies refuse to even ship live birds? Fedex or something? Again, I could be wrong about that, but it sure would be aweful to have no choices or options at all.

My Post office is really great to me. I ship eggs every week & I have had the post master call me to let me know hens (chicks ) were there & come & get them. Late at night sometimes . all my live birds are under contract & the company picks them up.

I believe USPS is the only one that ships live birds, FedEx does their part with the flight on USPS live shipments, but I don't think FedEx or UPS accepts them at all.
