Fall and winter eggs??

Hi
My ladies are 17 weeks old. Middle of Oct I should get eggs. Is it true that in the winter you dont get eggs? I'm asking because I have waited all this time

Now i Might have to wait till spring? This has been a lot of fun with the ladies so far. I just hate waiting LOL Thanks Scotty

This will depend a lot on the breed that you have. It is true that chickens slow down in the winter because of the number of hours of light. You can use artificial light to help with that problem. You should still get eggs, just maybe not as many as you will in the spring and summer.

You'll need to have a light on them...in the winter i have a light set on a timer to come on at like 4 am..it gives them the extra hours of light they need to keep laying..
Do a search on here for it..it will explain things better for you..good luck! Mine laid all winter long last year..
i'm not doing the light thing this winter though.. because i hear its not good to force them to keep laying when their body should normally be resting..

My dominiques started laying at 17 weeks last Sept. and continued through winter. For a while, in the shortest daylight time, we only got 1-2 eggs a day from 8 hens.

I should add that they had no supplimental light. Just what came naturally.
