Hi everyone. Just checking in from Long Island, NY. Lots of trees and power lines down. We lost power at 12:30 yesterday afternoon, so we've already been down 24+ hours. We held off on the generator until this afternoon, so I'm just catching up with everyone. Cell phone service is spotty at best. No damage here, but lots of my neighbors lost big trees (some fell on their houses, including my next-door neighbor whose new siding was finished Saturday). We were very lucky. Our ugly, unnecessary basketball hoop snapped its concrete footing. Now we can get rid of it, yay! My daughter was in an accident Sunday, so her car wasn't in its regular spot, where a huge branch fell. We'll probably be without power for 2 weeks by the looks of it, so the generator is a Godsend.

I sat in front of the fireplace last night reading and crocheting. Life is good.

(Oh yeah, and my daughter's okay. Some whiplash, that's all. We powered up the generator for her heating pad.

Checking in! We're fine here. Minimal damage and it wasn't nearly as severe here as they expected. Some flooding but nothing major. So glad we are all ok!! Still praying for those who are in those devastated areas. Very thankful on this end!

smkchick and MaineGigi~~ So thankful that you and your families weathered the storm ok. No power for a couple of weeks is a pain and I'm sure cleaning up will be a long and tiring process, but at least you all are still there!!

smkchick--I hope your daughter feels better soon. Heating pads are wonderful!! Definitely a reason to fire up the generator!!

My family that lives in CT, NY, and ME are all safe too. The news from the affected areas is heartbreaking, I would have never thought there could be such huge imense fires during a hurricaine w/ torrential rain and flooding.

I too have family in CT and NY and have heard from all and they are well. Most never even lost power.

I came across something purely by accident today that has me floored!!!!! I know this isn't a quilting thread but I came across this while working on my crocheted blanket (I plan to line the back w/ fabric) Anyway at first I was going to do solid blocks of one solid fabric and applique a shape in felt or fleece onto it, but I have been on a decluttering kick lately before I end up on hoarders. So I decided to use what I had, so when I was going to use scraps of fabric in one large block I thought I wouldn't like the look, so I over cut the squares and made various sewing and cutting and discovered I could start w/ two squares of solid fabric, make 3 seams (really 6 one on each side of the line) and 3 cuts and end up w/ this

You end up w/ 2 blocks this one and one exactly opposite of this! I think I have a new easy peasy go to block for quilting!!!!!

I'm glad your DD is ok. I hope she feels better soon.

It's hard to get comfortable here to crochet. You know how you have the right chair to sit in and all. Can't leave anything about with these kids. Lord have mercy I don't recall my own being so unruly. Got a 4 yr old still not potty trained. Ugh!

Wow not potty trained at 4

I don't have chidren, but I'm thinking that would be first on my list of things to do, get them out of diapers as soon as humanly possible. Hope you find a comfy chair though.

Seems to me if it weren't for disposable diapers kids would be potty trained much faster. At least mine were. You get sick of dunking poopy diapers in the toilet. Believe me it's a bone of contention here.

I got a notice from Fed Ex that mine and Jessica's Chocolate yarn is on the way but held up by the storm, should be here by next Thursday! All the blocks are done except for the trim! I hope all our swappers are safe and sound.
